Thanks! The Bankstons had moved out of York and Chester County by 1740; but
the Youngs that were there mid-1800's may well have descended from this line
you are suggesting. There were several Coates that intermarried into the
Rambo line from PA that also connect tot he Bankstons. So this is a good
choice for origin. Thank you.

There are some Youngs that are a collateral line of my Salmons. Have you
looked in York/Chester Co., SC mid 1800's?

In the James/John/William group: this member: John Hiram Coats b 1875 MO d
OK w Dalia Wilfong; although I don't think the wife's name is the same, but
there is a John H. Coats in the Indian Records...he was living in the Welch
area I think...the John H. Coats in Ottawa County OK, is Huff's brother,
birth dates etc match the census records; but that John H. Coats in the
Cherokee records, I'm not sure who he is yet...there is also another William
Coats wife Sarah buried in the Welch Cemetery, Welch, OK....this family
group (James/John/William) I believe is connected to the Charles Coats in
Jefferson County GA and we have a possible link there with the DNA test with
the ancestor in KS...let's see I think it's Thomas James Coats out of
KS...so with so few records out of the south...the more DNA folks we have
the better the information....:)
I am not, I repeat, I am not aware of any records out of NC for this group
of Coats' other than old research....so indeed if anyone finds documents
that connect a member of this family to NC I'd be most interested in
it...let's not confuse old research conjecture with what we know via the
documents....
And yes, the DNA is really the best way to go....:) It is great to see also
so many Coats/Coates/Coate out of the ENG area as well as one from the Evans
of Wales area...and no one in the States match any of them as of yet, is
that right...most interesting....

We've had more results come in, though he isn't yet a cousin match at
this point in time. We also had another person join the group.
That's happening regularly now as more persons learn the benefits of DNA
testing for assistance with family tree research. So if youe are still
waiting on a cousin match, take heart. Our group is growing all the
time. Linda Coate, admin.
We have 3 new members results up on our Coates DNA page at
www.ancestrees.com/dna/family.html. One of them is for Little John
Coate (yehhhh) matching Big John and Marm's group and one of them is for
Thomas B. Coates matching Wiley's group. The last has an Evans surname
and is listed at the bottom of the chart. We also have managed to get
an update on Wright Coate, son of Big John's kit sent in for improved
results that will be forthcoming. Enjoy. Please do send in a
description of your lineage to link to your kits if you haven't already
done so. Thanks! Linda Coate, admin.
We have a new member that will be placed up as soon as I hear from him
in the Wiley group, plus we have an extension result back for another
early member of the Wiley group! I hope this gives this group leads
to your theories on how you are cousins. Congrats. Let us know what
you guys surmise by combining the new results. Linda Coate
