Well, looking at this, his marriage to Mary Elizabeth Mackey could
definitely be his second marriage.
He is awfully old to be in on his first marriage.

Well, one of our members has a William Henry Coates who was born in 1845
in PA. William's death record says that William's parents were J.A.
Coats (b. PA) and L.(b. KY). The researcher believes he's found their
marriage record and J.A. stands for John. Could this be the same
family? Would you mind sending us more on John's family and Thomas'
family or a quick summary of Thomas's ancestors. Thanks so much for
writing.

I am trying to locate a J. A. Coats of Pennsylvania who was born in the
early 1800's, most likely from 1815-1825. We think his first name is
John. Thanks. Linda Coate Info on any J. Coats of Pennsylvania
definitely by 1845 would be most helpful.
Linda,
My mother and I have been researching the line of Coates that has been in the northern neck area of VA. We thought that our line had come in from James City, VA in the 1660's and soon moved into Essex Co and then Richmond Co. Edward T. Coates left Richmond county without his family and landed in Dorchester Co in Maryland in 1863. His father( James)(James) and grandfather we think were from the VA counties previously mentioned. I guess I need to start researching Samuel Coats in the time that you wrote and find before and after. Any suggestions? We have not been able to get anything concrete on the first James in VA. I need to figure where to research to see if he ties in to Samuel in MD. The distance from these 2 areas is small and would have happened by crossing the water between Dorchester Co and then to Richmond and Essex in VA. My mom lives in VA Beach and I live in Indiana. Edward T. Coates- born in Richmond Co and died in Dorchester was her great grandfather. You are right. This line is not well known and we have done a lot of work to get where we are now. Thanks! John Bratcher
Our line is John Bratcher, Eva Gloria Coates Bratcher, John Elliott Coates, Robert L. Coates, Edward T. Coates, and then James and James. I don't have the material with me right now but that takes us back to the late 1700's.

Well, I do believe there is more about this Coats families we don't
know than we do know....:)
I also think there is another Wilson Coats, older in Kershaw/Camden
area that we know nothing about either...seems he had a rather large
piece of land, which means he probably had a family when he moved
there...but I've not found anything other than a survey for him...

We've had a DNA test result kit come back that is a match to kit 7513.
It only took three weeks to get the results. This was a kit without a
Coates match until now so that is great. Remember, you can increase
your number of points tested on your DNA sample before June 30th for
about a 25% discount. We just had another member receive back his 25
point results and he is still looking forward to 37 points tested for
the Wiley group. It will be th first 37 point test in Wiley's group
too. Most members are finding that the 37 points of DNA give them the
best information as far as sorting out their cousins goes. You don't
have to get another kit either to increase your points. They use your
samples that you sent in the first time to increase your DNA points. I
sure would appreciate some of those Marmaduke descendants getting their
test results increased as we have a difference of one point between the
two of us that have carried that out so far. Thanks, new member and
all participating members! Linda Coate, Admin

Hello,
Benjamin Coats was the son of Joseph Coats and Rhoda ?? I have been able
to find her maiden name.
On May 16 1858 in Livingston County, Missouri Joseph Coats married Dovey
White.
On the 1860 Livingston County, Missouri Census Benjamin was listed as being
6 years old which put his birth between 1853-1855. He was born in Livingston
County, Missouri.
Benjamin Coats married Belle Breeze December 21, 1892 in Livingston County,
Missouri. Belle might have been his second wife. His first wife might have
been Annie E. Vanduzer married in Lafayette County, Missouri June 5, 1888,
1900 found him and his family in Lafayette County, Missouri, 1910 found him
and his family in Adams County, Billington Precinct, Washington as did 1920.
1930 found him and his family in Spoken County, Washington.
After that I don't know where was.
His children were:
Mary Coats born March 1889 in Missouri, she was the daughter of Benjamin
Coats and Annie E Vanduzer.
Zelma Coats born September 1896 in Missouri, she was the daughter of
Benjamin Coats and Belle Breeze.
Mildred Coats, she was the daughter of Benjamin Coats and Belle Breeze,
birth date unknown, in Missouri
Hazel Coats, she was the daughter of Benjamin Coats and Belle Breeze, birth
date unknown, in Missouri
This all I have for right now.
I do have the names of his siblings.

If you already have a 12 point test and want to increase it to the 35
point one, now is a great time to do it. The offer is about a 25%
discount and is only good from today through June 30th. You can write
me for details. Marmaduke and Wiley's group are two that really need
more than 12 points to figure out the closest cousin connections. I
hope you can take advantage of their offer. Have a great weekend!
Linda Coate
Do you happen to know anyone descended from their sons? Thanks,
Linda Coate

Linda,
Sure, that would be great.
I know of my families whereabouts in 1860, (Per the 1860 Census) which
was Spotsylvania Co. There were other Coats families in the same
location, so I think that they all were related.
My families Head was Warfield and Matilda Coats/Coates. Their first
child, Betty was my GGGrand-Mother. This was a Mulatto family. Family
history has it that Matilda was mixed Osage Indian from Missouri.
Thanks
Bruce
