Dear List; Linda Coate is now updating our DNA family histories on her
website. If you want to update your family history or delete it, now is
the time. Please e-mail Linda at lcoate(a)ancestrees.com, with your
comments, questions or an updated family history.

Dear group; Your DNA table of results will now be posted at Linda
Coate's website which is ancestrees.com, so you can put that in your
browser and find it. If you want to upload your line, you can do so by
sending it to lcoate(a)ancestrees.com. We're extremely grateful that
Linda is willing to take on this task.

I know someone on the list has done this DNA, and this may help.

Hi John,
I don't think I was able to locate any information on your relative, B F
Coats.
The Coates family that was here in Coryell Co. was founded by William
Duval Coates who was married to Eliza Winifred Powell. His parents were
Pollard Hickman Coates and Martha Smith Coates. The W D Coates family
came to Coryell Co. about 1855 from Harrison Co., MS. They apparently
also lived in several other Mississippi counties: Pike, Madison, and
Holmes. None of their children matched with the John A. and B F Coats
you were looking for. The only Coats/Coates burials we have records for
are for the WD Coates family.
If you would like copies of the materials I found on this family let me
know.
If you would like to make a donation for this research please make your
check payable to

and mail to

We are always glad to get donations but don't feel obligated since I
didn't find the information you were seeking.

Hope this will be of value to someone.

Hi there,
I would be willing to go to local cemeteries and photograph the headstones
of your Carrolls in Sampson County, NC, where I live.
All I ask is that you be patient (may take a week or two before I get there)
and that you be specific in who you want photographed, meaning, tell me what
cemetery they are located in.
The names of the towns in Sampson County, NC are:
Clinton (County Seat)
Roseboro
Autryville
Salemburg
Harrells
Midway
Spivey's Corner
Newton Grove
Turkey
Garland
Let me know if I can help. This is also most helpful when trying to
distinguish dates of birth and death and collateral lines that may be buried in the
same plot or very near by.
Many Blessings,
Janet Rogers

You guys are a hoot. :) Maybe there is someone else in the group
that would like to keep a DNA page going for the Coats? It doesn't
matter to me who does it, just so it gets done. Charlotte has given us
a great example of a well functioning page and I'd like to see it kept
up. I can do it if no one else wants to. I'm this recent retiree whom
is really enjoying life and getting into so many volunteer projects.
This can be one of them if needed.

Getting old in the tooth, and other parts too, I'm kind of winding down
on the Family History. Therefor, I'd like to be relieved of duty as the
admin of the DNA project. I'd like to nominate Linda Coate and John
Henry Coats as co-administrators, if they will accept it. Charlotte did
us a great service by linking the DNA with the history. Hope all of you
will help me to get Linda and John to accept the co-admins. The
Coats-Coates-Coate Family History must continue. Who knows but that one
of our kids may actually get interested, and then they won't have to
reinvent the wheel. Linda and John, please let me know, and I'll call
FamilyTreebyDNA.
Linda Coate has made an offer to house the DNA family files on her
website - at this point I am uncomfortable sending those files to
her...so for those of you that would like to have your family
information on her site, I would suggest you email her...
John is also going to make her the Co-Admin for the FTDNA site...so at
this point all communications should be directed to either of them...

For goodness sake Louise chill.
Charlotte has spent countless hours of her time over the years answering
questions, doing investigations, and playing traffic cop for all us Coats' as we
tried to make our way through the maze of records. As with all of us,
Charlotte's time and or interests have move on to other things and she has offered
a viable alternative to her being in complete control of a very time
consuming task. It is her call as to which road she chooses to take concerning the
web site.
If your information was already on the web site then I say you have no right
to say anything about it being on the CD. If not, you have no dog in this
fight. If you had a beef with Charlotte I think a private e-mail to her would
have been more appropriate.
My two cents worth.

Ok, I finally got it...lol...
What happened was, I had linked the Coats Archive in a spot that said
website and then left a place for a link...now recall we've been using
FTDNA since we started this group a few years back and they have
changed their website at least a couple of times on how you access
info...what was suppose to go there was the link to the FTDNA public
page...no wonder I couldn't find a link to it on any of those pages
and couldn't figure out where to access it .... not to mention the
number of emails I've gotten over time wanting to know how to get to
it...not realizing the web site link FTDNA wanted to go there was the
FTDNA public pages....
Anyway....I was able to correct the link they put there and had added
me back as an administrator before they changed the password...so you
may still see me as the admin but I have emailed them and asked them
to take me off as an admin ...so you should see John's name back up
there soon, I think...
So any questions on the FTDNA site needs to go to him....

Sorry folks, but I thought making the Coats Website available via
disk, at a nominal fee would be much better than just taking it down
without any avenue for anyone to access all the information that was
gathered...
Apparently I didn't get the link changed soon enough for FTDNA's
purposes....:) The link by the way has been to
http://www.coatsarchive.us for at least a couple of years I think, but
now it goes to the FTDNA Coats project website...
So John Wayne Coates, you're the new administrator....:)

Ms. Coats,
Thanks for your email.
We received a complaint this week that the public website for the Coats DNA
project had been taken down and replaced with an advertisement for a
genealogy disc. I consulted with my supervisor about this issue, and he
advised me to remove you from the position of group administrator
immediately. John will now be the sole administrator for the Coats surname
project unless he contacts our office and specifies otherwise. The
administrator password has been changed. If you have any questions, I'll be
happy to direct them to my supervisor, Max Blankfeld.
Please let me know if you have any questions or if there's anything else I
can do for you.
Thanks again,
Nick Maier

I cannot remember my kit number and it appears the old page is gone now. Is there any other place to see the old data so I get my kit number to logon to the FTDNA page? Is there any chance of getting the old page back online?

the tests are really your starting point for research and for others
to research from as well...the Y search site also gives others a
chance to search by surname, remember, we have lots of Coats daughters
out there that don't have a male for testing but who will find your
ged file of interest and they may possibly contact you for further
info...on the Ysearch site, they contact you via that site without
revealing your email address, all most beneficial for research

On the copyright, I don't think so, but you'll have to contact FTDNA
for that or Y search.org for that information....

You rock. That's why Blockbuster's offering you one month of Blockbuster Total Access, No Cost.
Ah, the family trees are ged files within FTDNA, each person now has
the ability to link their specific family to their DNA
results...however, you would need to be a participant in the DNA
project and match that person...
However, you can also access any ged files they have attached to their
files via FTDNAs Y-search, if that person has also put their data into
that data base...that data base is basically a search and only
concludes the kit numbers not the names of those taking the test...and
the ged file will show as *living* those for whom there is data but
the information has been hidden for privacy issues...
So, those of you who are in the DNA group, please add your family ged
file to your DNA home page if you would like others to have it or make
it available to the public via the Y-search database...you can search
that data base by surname as well...so you don't need the exact
numbers from the results...
