Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I've gone to the Coats DNA page and it now appears that the only people
that can get into the site's data are ones that have participated in the
project and have a password. Is that correct? Linda

Ancestry.com has decided that every single page that is hosted on
Ancestry, and that means Rootsweb, will have to have an Ancestry.com
banner across the top. There is a special banner that has been designed
for the USGW sites. This banner says that USGW is a member of the

I've had the banner on personal rootsweb site for quite some time now. It
doesn't shout at you, but I don't like it regardless.

Hello Linda,
My husband's great grandfather was William Coates Russell, b. abt 1832
in Philadelphia. Census records from 1860, 1880, and 1900 reflect that
he and his parents were born in Pennsylvania. Family oral history says
relatives lived in south Philadelphia. In 1860, William Coates Russell
lived in Philadelphia's 13th Ward. He was an accountant, and by 1900
had moved across the river to Camden, NJ. I cannot determine who his
parents were, but I'm convinced that his name of "William Coates" is
sigificant. My only other clue is that he named one of his sons
"Franklin," which may or may not be significant. (His oldest son was
William Coates Russell Jr.) I have a photo of William Coates Russell,
and he was a very handsome, dark-haired man.
In the research done on the Philadelphia-area Coats/Coates families, do
you know if there was there any record of a daughter who married a
Russell? (Probably around 1800-1810, I'm guessing.) I know it's a long
shot to even ask this question, but you know how it is when you're
researching family genealogy and you hit a brick wall!
Thanks so much!
