To Coats group manager,
As many of you are aware, the FTDNA site was down for several hours on
Friday and Saturday. We know there are concerns regarding the gift
certificate expiration and have decided to extend the offer until Friday,
Jan. 4, 2008 to allow more time for those last minute orders.
Also, to log in to your GAP, the letters in the ID and password should be
capitalized (passwords are now case sensitive). This also applies to
personal pages.
Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve the system and
strive to maintain our position as the world leader in Genetic Genealogy.
Have a happy, healthy, safe and prosperous New Year!

I'm looking for the information this family:
Wendell WHITEMAN born about 1821 in Pennsylvania and lived throughout the 1800s until after 1910
in the Spring Garden area of Philadelphia.
Wendell married Lydia L. HORTON, born about 1827 in Rhode Island,
daughter of Daniel HORTON and Elizabeth "Betsey" LEWIS. She was a nurse
in the Civil War, known as Lydia L. Whiteman.
Their children:
-Henry Lewis WHITEMAN born about 1843, died in Philadelphia, 24 April
1854.
-?? Lavinia WHITEMAN* born about 1848 (listed only on 1850 census as
2 years old) although she could also be Laura (see below) who is
listed on subsequent census records
-Laura L. WHITEMAN* born Oct 1850, married Edwin H. COATES born Feb
1850; their children were:
----Florence I. COATES born about 1870 in Philadelphia, possibly died
before adulthood
----Wendell Whiteman COATES born 2 Feb 1875 in Philadelphia, married
Bertha born April 1880 in Philadelphia. Children of Wendell Whiteman COATES
and Bertha [Regler] are:
--------Helena [Helen] C. COATES born about 1902 in PA (possibly
Phildadelphia)
--------Wendell Whiteman COATES Jr born 16 Sept 1910 in Camden, New
Jersey, died 17 Feb 1997 Vincentown, Burlington, New Jersey
-------Florence COATES
-------Laura COATES born 27 Feb 1913 in New Jersey [possibly Camden],
married Bernard MAYER. First child was (there were several children):
-------Bernard MAYER born about Sept-Oct 1929
If anyone can give me more information on this family, especially the
early WHITEMANS, I'd truly appreciate it.
I've found both Jacob WHITEMAN and John WHITEMAN listed with Wendell
and Lydia WHITEMAN on different early census records where no
relationship was listed. Both Jacob and John were 10 or more years younger than
Wendell Whiteman.
If anyone knows anything about the COATES and MAYER family connected to these families, I'd love
to hear from you. Where did they live? Do you know any of their descendants? I'd love to
compare notes.
* I'm not sure if the was a Lavinia WHITEMAN or if she was actually Laura WHITEMAN.
Thanks so much for taking time to read this.

Haven't seen much traffic on this list lately. Wanted to pass something
on about inherited medical problems. I've been diagnosed this year with
Hemochromatosis. This is an inherited autoimmune disease which causes
the blood to hold Iron, which is then deposited in the end organs
eventually. Diagnosis is by checking for Ferritin levels on a simple
blood test. So, when you do your annual Lipid Panel, just ask your
doctor to check your ferritin level. If it is normal, you don't have it.
If the ferritin is high, then a gene test is done to check for two
possible markers which carry this disease. I only have one, so, my
symptoms aren't too severe. My dad had this too, and he lived to be 93,
so it can't be too serious. Probably the only people who need to think
on this are the R1a1s who are related to me.
