Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Char? I am not following this line of thought? Sorry. Guess I am confused
about how this got to the Coats list?
Thanks,
Steve

Might as well jump in this fray of e-mails. I am not sure anyone here
connects with my Quaker Pearson line, but I have heard it mentioned a few
times.
I descend from Thomas and Margery (Smith) Pearson of Pownall Fee, Cheshire,
England. They are my 7th great grandparents and came to Philadelphia PA in
1683, the year after the arrival of Penn in 1682. Thomas was an associate
of Penn's. His father Lawrence Pierson/Pearson was an early follower of
George Fox, father of the Quakers. From there I descend from Thomas'
fourth son Enoch Pearson who married Mary Smith. Enoch migrated to Frederick
Co., VA. 1730s or 40s. Enoch had three sons that migrated to SC among
them was my fifth great grandfather Benjamin Pearson. He settled with the
Quakers in Bush River, Newberry Co., SC. Benjamin's son Joseph Pearson,
my fourth great grandfather, migrated to southwest Ohio in 1809 due to
religious convictions against slavery. He died there in 1840. His
firstborn, my third great, Abel Insco Pearson was born there in Miami Co.,
OH and eventually migrated into Darke Co., OH. In 1834, Abel and wife
Sarah gave birth to their firstborn, Silas Benjamin Pearson, my second great
grandfather. In 1861, my great grandfather was born to Silas and Susannah
(Coats) Pearson, David Stutsman Pearson. David died in Dayton, Montgomery
Co., OH in 1955. He and his wife Cora Belle (McDougal) Pearson gave birth to
their firstborn son Ernest David Pearson in 1912. My father is the firstborn
of three males and I am firstborn and only male of my parents. I am a
firstborn male direct descent from my fourth great grandfather Joseph
Pearson. I have no male children. Two lovely daughters only.
If anyone is connected to this line of Pearsons, I'd love to hear from you.
I do have another SC Pearson line that is somewhat of a mystery to me. I
will post information on that one later.
I am a part of the Family Tree DNA Pearson project kit 48315 with a 36
marker. I match one other in the project with our most recent common
ancestor being Enoch Pearson mentioned above. He was born in 1690.
Hope to find some relatives!

Subject: New Family Tree DNA Tests
To: coats.genealogy(a)gmail.com, jwcoats(a)htc.net
To Coats group manager,
Family Tree DNA is pleased to announce that Advanced DNA tests from
DNA-Fingerprint are now available to Family Tree DNA customers!
Customers can now order individual markers or panels for the Y-chromosome
(male only), X-chromosome, and autosomal DNA. These tests can be used to
broaden the possibilities for complex kinship testing (ex. sister
siblingship test). A database for comparisons is currently being
developed.
The CODIS autosomal markers are also available in this section as well.
Participants will now see two options when they go to the "Order Tests"
section on their personal page. The "Standard" option will offer the
Y-DNA
and mtDNA tests we have previously offered. For all of typical genealogy
group members the Standard section is the one for them. The "Advanced"
option will offer these new tests which leads into somewhat different
areas.
An explanation is available for each panel of markers.
We are very excited to offer these new tests to our existing customers. In
the next few days we will be offering these tests to individuals who may
not
have tested their DNA prior, but for the next several days these test will
only be available to existing FTDNA and DNA-Fingerprint clients.
DNA-Fingerprint customers can now give permission to transfer their data
to
Family Tree DNA to be included on their personal page in 1-2 months.
We appreciate choosing Family Tree DNA for your genetic genealogy needs,
and
are proud to continue to be at the forefront of genetic genealogy testing.

Several Coats/Coate/Coates families lived throughout the US. Were they
related at all? A special effort is being made to test those who might
help us find that missing link. New connections made daily!
To find out, we need to get more male descendants of
Coates/Coats/Coate to take the Y chromosome (DNA) test. Three of my
Coats line have taken it (It takes about 10 seconds to swab the inside
of your cheek; then it must be mailed to the lab), and lo, we are
related, plus we have about ten new, distant relatives. The problem is
that there as yet are many branches in this family that would help us
solve many family connections, so the links to the other relatives are
as yet unknown and the kinship may be back 100s of years! So we need
more males to take the test! Only males can participate in the Y Chrom
projects, but as long as he is a Coates/Coats/Coate from your line he
can take the test for those who are not Coates/Coats/Coate surnamed.
This is becoming the resource of first choice for the beginner or
seasoned genealogist, so why not add your family line now!
Why we do it !
The Y chromosome is passed from father to son unchanged, except for a
mutation about every 500 generations. Testing the Y chromosome will
provide you with a genetic finger print consisting of 12 or 67
numbers. By comparing this finger print to others with your surname,
you can determine if they are related.
The objectives of Surname Projects vary. Here are a few:
* Identify others who are related
* Prove or disprove theories regarding ancestors
* Solve brick walls in your research
* Determine a location for further research
* Validate existing research
Often a Surname Project has multiple objectives, and the objectives
may even change over the life of the project.
Most Surname Projects start with the objective to identify others who
are related, and through out the project the other objectives are
achieved simply as a result of the project.
Current Coates/Coate/Coates males tested, and we have 11
distinct family lines have been identified, plus there are some that
have no matches. Test results are posted here:
