1852 NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS
TO SOLVE GENEALOGICAL MYSTERIES.
It is New Year's Eve 1852 and Henry Hydenwel sits at his desk by
candlelight. He dips his quill pen in ink and begins to writes his New
Year's resolutions.
1. No man is truly well-educated unless he learns to spell his name at
least three different ways within the same document. I resolve to give the
appearance of being extremely well-educated in the coming year.
2. I resolve to see to it that all of my children will have the same names
that my ancestors have used for six generations in a row.
3. My age is no one's business but my own. I hereby resolve to never list
the same age or birth year twice on any document.
4. I resolve to have each of my children baptized in a different church --
either in a different faith or in a different parish. Every third child
will not be baptized at all or will be baptized by an itinerant minister
who keeps no records.
5. I resolve to move to a new town, new county, or new state at least once
every 10 years -- just before those pesky enumerators come around asking
silly questions.
6. I will make every attempt to reside in counties and towns where no vital
records are maintained or where the courthouse burns down every few years.
7. I resolve to join an obscure religious cult that does not believe in
record keeping or in participating in military service.
8. When the tax collector comes to my door, I'll loan him my pen, which has
been dipped in rapidly fading blue ink.
9. I resolve that if my beloved wife Mary should die, I will marry another
Mary.
10. I resolve not to make a will. Who needs to spend money on a lawyer

Those who are planning your 2006 microfilm transcription projects will need
to note a MAJOR increase in microfilm rental costs from the LDS Family
History Library on Jan. 15th.
The first rental (approximately 30 days) will be around $5.75 -- depending
on handling fees charged by your local library -- with extensions costing
$5.50, again depending on fees charged by your local library.
That means a film borrowed on indefinite loan will cost about double its
current cost.
Therefore -- get to your local LDS Family History Center and order up your
films now!

Does anyone know how this Samuel Coats who probably died intestate in
1797 in Halifax Co., Va fits in?

Hi Charlotte,
When I saw your reference to the name James Green Coats, I remembered that
my current research indicates that my Wm Coats(d. Linc. Co. TN c. 1829)had a
wife named Margaret Irby/aka "Yerby", and SHE had a connection to a Green
family via her father, Wm Green Irby. But Margaret would have been born c.
1755 probably in or near Edgecombe Co. NC.....guess this doesn't really go
anywhere, but thought I would add it anyway.
BTW, yesterday, I received and sent back the Sorenson Foundation DNA test
kit; I had to include a permission to test form, a 4-5 generation pedigree
chart(showing both paternal and maternal lines), and a small bottle of used
mouthwash....rather than use a swab, Sorenson apparently uses some sort of
mouthwash as their means of getting their samples. Soooooo, I guess in a
few weeks, I will either know something new or nothing new<g>

Larry, yes, the AF linked to my DNA from Sorenson was the same as
yours...James Robert Coates.....but James is not the son of John and
Ann Coates of Sumter/Green County AL...but you know what I think there
another John in Merango or Marengo County AL, we don't know who he is
yet...but John and Ann Coates son was James Green Coats...we have
their probate records that show that...James Green releases an
interest in land owned by John and Ann Coates which the heirs are
selling...
It might be that all the names of AF Coates/Coats are linked to those
DNA results???

I've added some pages out of an old Turner genealogy to this Alabama

think it was and the infamous Coats thread company...sorry, there just
isn't any proof of this....

I was just looking through some files and in an old history of
Northern CA, it states that Rev Will was about 70 when he died, which
puts his birth date closer to 1766 give or take a few years...

Ok, got the BLM deeds up also for Alabama, not all the census records
up yet but working on a few more...I'm sorta limiting the census
records to the names that are in the BLM land records etc...but there
are quite a few Coates living in AL that were born in SC, so I've
tried to include all of those....

movies?? and for something he didn't do???
WISCONSIN GRANDFATHER SETTLES DOWNLOAD SUIT
A 67-year-old Racine man who was sued for up to $600,000 by
a group of major film studios over four movies his grandson
downloaded will lecture children about Internet piracy as
part of an out-of-court settlement. In the settlement
reached late last week, Fred Lawrence agreed to work with
the movie companies and the Milwaukee Bar Association in
coming weeks to develop a program to teach local families
and school children about copyright law.

TEXAS UTILITY TO PROVIDE INTERNET OVER POWER LINES

Remember if you are on this list and have not joined our Coats DNA
project, please consider joining our project....this has been
extremely helpful in doing our research and in some cases can save you
loads of time in doing a paper trail....
The large the test group, the more information we can gleen from it....

I ran across your email while I was doing my family tree .I am trying
to track the coats family as they went from Calloway county. Then to
Calif. Then to my family in Springfield Louisiana any info you could
give me would be great thanks Jason Coats
My grandfathers name was eugene harold coats ,but the town I am from
is springfield Louisiana. There at Carter plantation there is a
cemetary with over 100 Coats grave sites going back to the early
1900s.
I am not sure of how the coats family ended up in springfield
Louisiana? And for so many to be there is odd?
oldest grave in cemetary is Henry clay Coats born Feb 27th 1851 died 1915
