We have one DNA 12 marker kit that is due back from the lab about 2/8/04
There are 4, 37 marker kits due back also..
I have also ordered a kit from the Coats DNA Project for the ancestor James
Coates of TN late 1700s I believe is the time period...
The cost of the kit, it is a 12 marker kit, was $101.00 so we now have
$62.09 as the balance of our DNA Project Fund...
Thanks to all of you that have donated funds for the kits...it is
appreciated and we probably wouldn't be able to have this result without
it!!
More as the info comes in...:)
Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!!

We also have a test result due about 2/8/04, ancestor is Thomas Benton
Coates, out of AR...
We also have several 37 Marker test results that will be coming as well...
I think the 37 Marker matches puts your ancestor within 7 generations...
More when they all come in....:)

Ok, we have a taker for our DNA test kit...
Ancestor is James Coates out of TN, at least part of the time in Hamilton
County TN, late 1700s early 1800s...the elderly gentleman taking the test,
is the last Coats in his line...
I'd say this qualifies...and if there are no objections we'll make
arrangements for his kit...
It's going to take a few weeks...you know all those complicated rules...I
have to have a debit card from PayPal to access the funds...it's used like a
credit card, which FTDNA takes via the web...but I can't get it til we're
there at least 60 days...soooooooo, waiting....:)
The account has $160.00+ funds in it...:) I do want to thank all those of
you, that have contributed!! Without you, this would not have been possible
and we might have missed this DNA result!!

I can't go to the DNA chart that shows all the matches. I have clicked on everything I can find and I just end up back in the same place. I used to be able to see them? Do I have a program missing or what? Help!
I was looking at the names of the children of William Coates and Sarah Worrell Coates from Borough of Frankford, Phila. Paulina was my GGrandmother's name, and her sister's name was Sarah. Their father was named Thomas Coates/Coats. Thomas's father's name was James. I keep thinking these people have got to be my brick wall. Has anyone tied into them yet? any DNA tie ins Yet? From time and place, he is likely to be that Elijah, son of Edward Coates
and Joanna Ellen, of Northampton, Mass. He was born in Nov. of
1757. Edward's father was Charles Coates of England and Esther Neale of
Conn according to my second hand sources.

My James Coats had a Rachel Godman age 23 and a Cinthia age 1 living in the same household in 1850 in Jackson County, Alabama. Is anyone researching these names? Betty in Ringgold
I have found a male Coates. I think his daughter can talk him into taking the test. But he can't afford the test. He is descended from James Coats born 1797 in Tennessee. and Joannah Gay born 1803 in Tennessee. They were in Jackson County, Alabama in 1850. Thanks Betty in Ringgold, Georgia
Not to alarm anyone...butttt, if you type in a telephone number into

We have received a very large donation to our DNA Project...
THANK YOU!!
We now have $143.97 in the fund....:)
Again I must add these are folks that are not Coats surnamed, but they
either have had someone else in the group who participated in their line or
they've daughtered out or don't know of any Coats cousins in their line!!
We do indeed thank you...
My thinking on this is:
1. Funds will be used for those lines, which aren't in the project yet;
2. For test kits for folks that aren't necessarily into genealogy, but they
have a Coats surname;
3. Folks that are interested in genealogy, are on a fixed income and
between food and medicine, have little left for anything else...
4. Any other suggestions from the group...
Any suggestions as to participants let me know....I can either contact them
or you can and then let me know...my thinking also is, that if they are not
interested in genealogy it might be more enticing if we offer to pay for the
test kit for them...
Boy, I am open here....
Lines that come to the top of my head that we need right now is:
1. Barton Coats....:)
2. Wilson Coats....:) both 1 and 2 out of TN
3. Anyone in the TN, NJ, SC, NC, PA area, also anyone in the deep
south...i.e. MS, AR, AL etc...
4. Anyone you talk to who is willing to give us a sample....:)

Subject: Nathaniel Coats b. abt 1745

Hi--
I am a descendant of Nathaniel Coats, m. Martha Lamar. I descend from their
daughter, Jane Smiley Coats, m. Howell Jarrett. Their son, Nathaniel Coats
Jarrett, m. Frances Ann Lyle (1802-1891) I have an original portrait and
nightcap of Frances Ann Lyle Jarrett. I am very interested in obtaining
information
of Nathaniel Coats. My grandmother had said that Nathaniel fought in the
Rev. War, so I have assumed that he is the "Nathaniel Coats" listed in
"Georgia
Revolutionary Soldiers & Sailors, Patriots & Pioneers," V. 2, p. 311.He is
listed under Wilkes Co, GA, because his grave is there. According to the
book,
"He was certified as a Revolutionary War Soldier by Colonel Elijah Clarke
and
received bounty land along Buffalo Creek in old Washington County for his
services." I haven't found much of anything on Jane Smiley Coats--do you
have any
information on her?
Thanks,
Jan Loftis
