Hello All,
It looks to be connected with the UsGenWeb project. It is just
getting started but looks promising. You may submit/or find Family Group
Sheets for anyone who resided in a specific state during their lifetime..
and make contact with the submitter or family researcher.

Robbie's given you most everything that I have. Anything else, I would
have to fix my old computer (which I will soon enough).
Do you know of any direct male descendents of Pollard Hickman Coates?

Robbie; This is my GGGrandfather, John Webster Coats. Interesting that
it says he is 45, when he was supposed to have been born 1808 in
Robertson Co., TN. Also, Ellen is Ellen Brantley Coats, and it shows she
is 30. So, she would have been 16 when she married, as Nancy was 14 in
1850. I think that is correct since other records show her born 1820 in
NC, daughter of Jesse Brantley. Hammett fought in the Civil War for the
South of course. My GGGrandfather on the Limbaugh side of the family
fought for the North, all four years, and marched and fought all the way
from Mo., to the East Coats until the surrender, then marched back to
Mo., and died a year later.

Well, if this be true...then, that William Couts/Coats based on the
Robertson County TN court records, would have still been in Robertson County
TN after Rev William Coats appears in Smith County TN...now recall there is
both a William Couts and John Couts in TN....I suspect this is phonetic
spelling again...and from what I can piece together in the deed records,
their land was close...
We still have a John and James Cotes in SC and if I recall correctly John in
WA said there was a John and James Coats or some variation in NC...there is
also at least and early James or John Coots in NC...
Hmmm, guess I'll see what those old histories have to say....

Hi Charlotte,
We have William Coutses throughout the family! I have two grandfathers
myself....BUT! I have found no proof of the Couts Family having a William
Couts in early TN. Especially as one of the original brothers born circa
1785ish. Supposively, he-William Couts married an Epps and had little Mary
Couts who married Joel Vaughn. The only people I have found close are Coats
who came from So. Carolina.

there was also an Archer Baker but not sure he was in this TN area...

Two comments:
This could very well be a variation of Coats - notice the name of his wife,
Nancy...could be the Wm brother to Barton Coats of Robertson County and
maybe not...
I also have to say that in the Robertson County TN deed records for John
Couts and Wm Couts including the Coats spelling as Coats to the John Baker,
the Couts brothers had land I think close to one another - they appear to
have the same adjoining land owner...although I can't pinpoint the exact
location of their land, I was able to tell better where, I think it was a
Thompson or Thomson had his land and he was also an adjoining owner in both
John and Wm Couts deeds, including the deed that has in the index Wm Coats
to John Baker....
Now, this John Baker is a different John Baker than was in Wilson County
TN...I also think that the John Baker in Robertson County TN also had a
brother in Wilson County TN named Henry, because Henry Baker is selling land
for a John Baker who lived in Robertson County TN...
The John Baker in Robertson County TN I don't believe died in or about 1849,
since I am unable to find any estate record for him...and as you recall a
John Baker left part of his estate to Nancy Baker Coats in Callaway County
MO...there appears to be no estate records from 1843 to 1851 in Robertson
County TN for a John Baker...
Still looking....:)

I know Pollard had a sister named Emilia Coates b. ca. 1799
Pollard Coates Mother is Helena Hickman
d/o John Hickman and Elizabeth Bright.
Pollard and Emilia Coates are mentioned in John Hickman's will as grandchildren and that Helena Coates is their mother.
Their is a Joseph Coats that lives next door to John Hickman but,it has Never been proven he is the husband of Helena Coats.
It was believed until the last year or so that Eleanor Hickman of Barnwell County, SC that married Elijah Coats was actually Helena Hickman.
Though a year or so ago I saw a journal (and have a copy) of a journal (Diary) (belonging to Bernice Jones ) written by Thaddeus William Rawlins in 1898 that Elenor Hicksman and Elijah Coates of South Carolina are the parents of Austin Coates,Rebecka Coates, Elizabeth 'Betsy' Coates and Mary Coates .He goes on to say who his Rawlins Gr Parents are too a page are two later.
It is written in pencil and a copy is hard to read.
If you go to the 1800 ,SC (Orange) you will see Elijah Coats with one female, 3 child females and 1 child male He is also, living in a different county than John Hickman .
Census Orangburg- page 507-508 Orange County, South side of Edisto River 1-0-0-1-0- 2-1-0-1-0- 2 Elijah-Austin-Elizabeth-Rebecka-Mary-Elenor these would fit perfectly with their ages.
by 1811 Elijah Coates and Elenor Hickman were in Wilkinson County, Mississippi Wilkinson County Jury: Edward Randolph VS. Samuel Davis 1811 Book 2A pg. 68 Residents of the Mississippi Territory Misc. by Jean Strickland and Patricia N. Edwards (Elijah Coats is a jury man)
aft. they sold land that belonged to Elenor Hickman w/Elijah Coates to William Barr, Book B page 234
The land is near John Hickman so it is my belief that Elenor is a sister or niece to John Hickman .
It is very uncommon in 1800 for a woman to own land.
I recieved this from Justin Sanders
