Most interesting....looks like it has something to do with the proving of the deed...not sure
p. 349 looks like almost a duplicate of the above

Subject: Coats and Harrison
Hello Charlotte,
My name is Carole Duke. I saw your posting today on the genforum looking for information about childr3en of Charles Coats. I'm sorry to say I don't have any information for you. I too am looking for information. I have a ancestor Bailis Harrison who married Polly Coats in Adair county, Ky. July 28, 1807. Attest: Kinsey Coats
Bailis Harrison later married a Nancy Pruett in Adair county, Ky. December 21, 1816. Attest:(surety/bondsman) John Harrison. Bailis and Nancy had a son Isaac Harrison who was born 1830 in Hart county, Ky. who married a Nancy Jane Larrimore.
Would you possibly have any information on any of these people? Do you know of anyone who might have the 1790 or 1800 Adair county census?
thank you so much,
Carole Duke

All seems to be correct!! A few extra tidbits: Henry C. Coats and Mary
Susan Dalrymple married 22-Dec-1867 in Baine(Etowah Co.) AL. Henry and his
brother Daniel P Coats, for one reason or another, moved to Arkansas for the
War Years. Henry then moved back to AL( probably to tend to his mother).
Henry and Mary Susan moved to Blount Co. AL around 1880 or so.
Henry Dalrymple, according to his tombstone, was born 05-May-1805.
Hannah's father was James Smith, Sr., but this fact is unproven.
On the 1907 Census of Confederate Veterans living in AL, Henry C. Coats
states that he was born in Boyd's Mill, "Lawrence Co." SC. From what I can
ascertain, Boyd's Mill was almost on the Laurens/Newberry Co. line. Looking
at the minutes of Bush River Baptist(Newberry Co.) and Popular
Springs(Laurens Co.), it appears that Boyd's Mill may have been in Newberry
Co....or maybe not---it is hard to tell. It also appears that a few of Jehu
Coats' siblings, as well as Isaac & Mary Teague, were received from Bush
River to Popular Springs in the early 1830's. Not that it applies to you,
but I will also mention that either Jehu Coats or Mary Polly Johns(t)on has
a tie to Isaac Teague or his wife Mary ???. Jehu and Mary's children were
mentioned as legatees in Isaac Teague's will(relationship is not mentioned).
Jehu and family were dismissed from Popular Springs 14-Nov-1835. Charles
P.(?Pinkney?) Johns(t)on is possibly a brother to Mary Polly Johns(t)on
Coats.
Sorry if all of this seems to run together...too many names!!!

any idea. I would love to post a query to it.
Have you heard anything about Coates living in NY? Ft. Ticonderogo maybe?
family is telling me that my great grandmother Delia Coates was full blooded
indian. My grandfather Clarence Barlow used to refer to her as a "damn
indian". Hope that was only when he was realy mad at her.
Does a Coates/Indian relationship sound familiar?

This information from the RootsWeb Review, Vol 4, No. 26 that I received

Subject: Coats-Abernathy connection?
Hi Char, You and I have been poking around the same nooks and crannies
in Newberry Co. SC and we know that our ancestors were at least
neighboring landowners. John H. Coats thinks his Amy Abernathy may
have been a niece of my ancestor John Abernathy. Now I think Michael
Tucker (mtucker(a)cybrtyme.com) may have provided us a link (marriage)
between the Coats and Abernathy families, but it's not about Amy. It's
about:
Henry C. Coats (1829-1910) was b at Boyd's Mill in Laurens Co. SC. He
married Mary Susan Dalrymple (1836-1904) in AL in what is now Etowah Co.
(that's where Gadsden, AL is).
Mary's parents were Henry H. Dalrymple (1805-1870) and Hannah Smith
(1805-1880) of Laurens Co. SC. The parents of Henry H. Dalrymple both
had the surname Dalrymple (cousins): John Dalrymple, Jr. and Anne
Dalrymple (daughter of George Dalrymple, Jr. and Ann Teague). John
Jr.'s parents were John Dalrymple, Sr. (b 1732) and Susannah Cannon.
John Jr. had a sister Sarah Dalrymple (b 1773 in Newberry Co. SC) who
married Joseph Galleghy. Sarah's son Jesse Lawrence Galleghy (b 1805)
married Rhoda Abernathy in 1849 in Laurens Co. SC. Rhoda was a
grand-daughter of my direct ancestor John Abernathy who married Rhoda
Davis in 1775 in Newberry Co. SC.
As you can see, I've gone to a lot of trouble to be able to call you
COUSIN CHAR. Now all you have to do is connect yourself with Henry's
ancestors.
The father of Henry C. Coats (1829-1910) was Jehu Coats (1802-1854) of
Newberry Co. SC who married Mary Polly Johnson (1811-1897) about 1826 in
Newberry Co. SC. Jehu Coats' father was Henry Coate. Jehu was a store
owner who bought land in 1842; he wound up in Dekalb Co. AL. Jehu
Coats' other children besides Henry C. Caots were Isaac T. (b about 1827
in Newberry Co. SC), Daniel P. (m Elizabeth Parker), Terrel J. (died in
Civil War), John S., James A. (killed in Battle of Shiloh 1862),
Cinderella F. (b 1844), Sarah Elizabeth, and Nancy (1850-1931) who
married Patrick M Fraizer.
Please let me know if there are corrections I need to make. Please
reply to MAMeyer77801(a)webtv.net instead of meyerma(a)webtv.net
Do you remember who wrote to us about a Coats-Abernathy connection in

Please keep this list free. I, like many others who use these lists, live in New Zealand, so most of my researching must be done overseas, mainly in the U.K. It is not cheap to travel there and I don't have a credit card to use (I refuse to use one) as I only spend what I have. I can't afford to belong to a number of sites, so tend to stick to what I can access on a free basis.
