My great grandfather was Franklin Eikoff Coates, born in London, Canada
circa 1854. His mother was Sadie Eikoff Coates.
His wife was Ida Victoria Gokey, born in Napa Ca in 1869. Her parents
also came from Canada - Caroline Jane (born in Russell, Canada) and John
Elias Gokey.
They had two sons Frank G. Coates and Noel Hammond Coates (my maternal
grandfather). Both were born in Califonia around the San Francisco Bay
Area. My grandfather Noel died in 1954 or 1955 and was buried in
Oakland, Ca.
I am especially looking for information on Franklin Eikoff Coates or Ida
Gokey Coates or Sadie Eikoff Coates.
please respond to ccampana(a)daa.com
Thank you!!

Hi all,
In talking to one of my Coates cousins (Virginia Block) I discovered some
very interesting information about the wife of David Jackson Coates Son Of
Austin Marion Coates and Margaret Coon.
David Jackson Coates b. 1818 married Lydia Ann Jane Pace b. 1827
Her parent were John Allen Pace and Syrena Bond.
John Allen pace descends directly from Richard Pace (first known Pace in
America) he was married to Isabella Smyth. They owned a Plantation in
Jamestown on the James River.
Richard Pace traveled down the James River in a row boat to Warn The Indians
were on their way to massacre Jamestown settlement and saved the settlement
This is the James Smith that married Pocohantas.

Dear Hale County Researchers,
For a long time I have wanted to compile the Land Record to help all of
us with our research. However, the last year has been more difficult
than I thought it would be. I haven't got as much done as I
hoped.(Actully, none) Here are my first 60 entries.
Hope it helps someone.
My life is looking as if it will settle just about the time Christmas
hits me. It looks like in Janurary I can resume this project.
Enjoy!

[my note: I'm not sure where he gets all the info in this book, I checked at least one of the patents on the VA Library site and it has the patent there but didn't name all the people the land was transfered to...from what I can gather, people were given large tracts of land but then it was divided among several families...i.e. my McKay family did this in VA, part of the deal for Robert McKay to get the large tract of land he got was to get 100 Quaker families to move there...so the land would have been granted in Robert McKay's name but later, transfered or assigned to the 100 families that moved there with him...a settlement if you will...I'm just gathering this is the same type of thing that happened with some of these records...but where he gets all the info he put with the record I don't know...doesn't seem to say in the book...]Get more from the Web. Subject: Some English Coats
Dear Charlotte:
While reading some microfilm looking for another surname,
I came across a Coats family that someone else might find useful.
This is on LDS microfilm of parish records of St. Mary's Church,
Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, England, Rolls No. 1040584,-85 . The
information on these rolls is not on the LDS International Genealogy
Index. The spellings are as I found them in the Church Register:
18 Sep 1785 Baptism of Mary, daughter of John & Mary Coats
3 Aug 1788 " Ann, ditto
9 Dec 1788 Burial of Jane Coates, Infant
4 Jan 1789 Burial of Mary Coates, Infant
26 Jun 1791 Baptism of John, son of John and Mary Coates
3 Nov 1793 Baptism of Mary, daughter of John & Mary Coats
18 Sep 1795 Baptism of Jane, daughter of John & Mary Coats
11 Apr 1796 Burial Jane Cotes, Infant daughter of John & Mary
I read this microfilm from 1750 through 1850 for baptisms and
Burials. This is the total of the Coats (by any spelling ) present.
As there are three other Church of England Churches within a
five mile radius, a small move could have put this family in
another parish.
