Hi Folks got all but two the Rev Records up that I got the other day....the William Coats of VA and William Coats of TN are the two left to do...
The document page they are on...
Robert Coats - Connecticut
Charles Coats - Mass
Reuben Coates- Mass
John Coates - VA
John Coates - PA
Some of these are very large files...so I've tried to break them down into five pages at a shot...
Also the William Coats of VA, is from Caroline County VA...I think I said Halifax county before...it's John that is from Halifax County VA...
Also some of the records show the served in one state, but moved and were living in another state when they applied for the pension...so I've put them on the state page where they served...so be careful of that....

Hi Folks...well, I got about a hundred pages of the Revolutionary Records today....there is about 400 pages left...!!!!! This is just the Warrant and Pension Records...there is also a collection of Manuscripts to do with the Revolution...the index shows some of the Coats names are different than those in the Pension file...so not all Coats in the Revolution filed for pensions...
The War of 1812 records at our archive here is only an index....darn....so I'll have to check with LDS to see if they have those records on file....
William Coats in Davidson County TN is a different William Coats than the one in Halifax County VA....they both filed for Pensions, William in VA died there....
Also there is a Thomas Coats in there from MA or CT I think...his pension file is 163 pages long...everyone got into the act....he died during the process his wife Lois Brown, maiden name, remarried a Delano, it names all their kids....she dies, her son in law a Gates was the administrator of her estate....boy what a file...just filled with info....Edward was his cousin...he even files a declaration or there was a declaration in there stating this....
Amos Coats and Anna, I believe it was their son that was named Erastius Coats....there's a declaration in their file on this one as well...
Boy, sure bad they didn't all file for a pension and if it was rejected or questioned there is all sorts of stuff in there...they had to prove service, where they were living, tells where they died, just really interesting stuff....
Probably won't get back down there till next week now...will work on getting what I have in the Coats Archive....etc...

I thought my family were the only Coats' in the phone book, but it looks as though we were wrong. We come from Northumberland, in the United Kingdom, and my mam would love to hear from any Coats families out there
s out there
FYI...I have also listed the addresses for Jack Coates and Odessa Collins, not sure of Odessa's yet, if you'd like to order their books...I also listed on the same page microfilm at the LDS library that has Coats' books or Coats' lines in other family books...Noticed there was one there on Jeremiah Coats...not sure this is the Jeremiah out of MO...but just thought I'd let you know....Char

Well folks you aren't going to believe this buuuutttt....
The Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Application Files are at the Regional Archives in Laguna Niguel....I might add that's about 10 minutes from where my granddaughter is...<g>....
Anyway, all of the records are in alphabetical order....and the Coate, Coates, Coats, Cote and Cotes records are all on M804 Roll Number 585....all group together just one right after the other....
I wasn't able to make copies today, just ran out of time...but I located the records on the microfilm....lots from MA, CT and VA but didn't get to look at them all there is a Rueben (spelling might be off) Coats in MA and Amos Coats his wife's name was Anna, I think he was in MA or CT as well, Benjamin Coats' claim is there...some of them were rejected...there is a Charles Coats, but all it had was one page for him....anyway, needless to say I plan to get copies of all of them....might be the end of the week....
I figure if I go to the Archive in the mornings, I'll just sorta stop by and see that new granddaughter in the after noon....<g>....

r noon....<g>....

I believe that at least two of the four sons of Gentleman John , William and
John, removed to Miami County, Ohio about 1807. Some of the Pembertons also
did so. William Coate supposedly married Mary Jay d/o William Jay, and John
Coate perhaps married Amy Abernathy, perhaps a daughter of James Abernathy.
I have been working on this family for quite some time and was thrilled to
find your extensive web site on the Coate family,
Thanks Would like to hear from you.. Tom Rider

According to the data I have sent to me by a descendant of Big John Coates,
the John who m. Amy Abernathy and the William who is supposed to have married
Mary Jay were sons of Big John and Rachel Wright Coates.

There's a Rufus Coats and Palmer's among this group...and a William
Coats????.

Finished putting up the Callaway County MO Docs I have also three deeds from
Davidson County TN that I got from Strictly by Name....that's an interesting
site...there is a transcribed copy of the TN deed as well as a copy of the
original....
Two of the Davidson County TN deeds are for a Coots 1791...interesting the
other a John Coates in 1801....I took the Coots as well since there were
Coots mixed or whatever with Coats...both Coots deeds are show they were
from NC...
I have the next two microfilm from Callaway County MO coming...the next set
of will books in time and the next set of Probate court records in
time....the court records are the minutes of the court...

I've added a few Callaway County MO documents for James Coats' estate...these are the Minutes of the court...I'm transcribing most of them because the film was just to dark to even get a good copy...I have scanned them and will get those up as well...
But I noticed something unusual about viewing them...I have IE5 and Word viewer so it might have something to do with that...
Wordviewer didn't pop up...so I got a *page isn't there message* but when I *refreshed* the page, the document popped up...
I have no idea why it's doing that...

P.S. My first grandchild, Bryanna Elizabeth Armstrong arrived yesterday at 5:36 PM on June 22, 1999...she weighed in at 8 Lbs...and is 20" long....Mother and baby are doing great...Dad is still floating...<g>....
