Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Thanks for the cheer!
Hope you had a great turkey day. I heard that Mom was heading your way for
Thanksgiving. John called her on Thursday and no answer so I assume it was
true. Good for her!
We were in Tahoe. Michelle, Rosie, Dave, Heather, Dad and Dennis joined
John and I. It was really fun and the scenery was beautiful but the drive
home on Sunday was grueling. Michelle had the month of November off so she
and I went a week early and goofed off for a couple of days.
I was wondering if Ami would be here for the 20th? If not I will switch out
her name in the name drawing to be sure that no one will be left out or
would she like to participate anyway? She could send a gift for the name
she drew and I will be glad to mail the package that turns up with her name
on it. Just let me know. Tell her we are thinking of her. What a great
adventure.
See ya, Janice
FYI...thanks Bob...this is really some great info...Charlotte

Bob-
Thanks a bunch for looking up the Coats/Hickey marriage.
Regarding the Irish Coates knighted around 1900, do you know where they
were knighted, or where I might research this further?
Thanks again. Felicia
See below

Hickey. Regrettably I don't.

Felicia, the Irish Coates I was referring to above became baronets and
the first baronet was Sir William Frederick Coates, J.P., D.L., and was
the son of David Lindsay Coates J.P. of Clonallon, Belfast. Sir William
was a senior partner in William F. Coates & Co., stockbrokers of
Belfast. He was also the High Sheriff of Belfast in 1906 and amongst
other things, the Lord Mayor of Belfast in 1920, 21, 22, 29 & 30.
I have a copy of this in my files and if you don't mind a copy of a
copy, I would be pleased to send this to you if you send me your snail
mail address.

I have Microsoft Outlook for my e-mail and this version has follow up flags
for the e-mail messages and also a task folder. These have really helped
keep it all together as far as knowing who I have promised to send
information to. I also save family information in different family files I
have set up in MS Works. There are still some bugs to work out and still too
much paper work (because I also like to have hard copies) but it is getting
better.

No Coates listed as being buried in Maury Co. Cem. Books

Charles COURTS (or COATS) - 1810, 1811. Married 14 Oct. 1808 in Maury

Clary HUDSPETH; Will book B, page 99, gives names as COATES and late of

Not my family just happened to run across this in Jill Garretts Maury

I utilize Excel (which is a spreadsheet program). I have one column for
today's date, one that states "e-mail", one that states "snail-mail",
one that
states Description/Project, and the last one is the Due Date. This
allows me
to list who I promised something to, how I need to send it and by when.
The
Excel sheet can be sorted by date or by project, etc. So that each day
I know
what I have to get out. (Any spreadsheet or database program will do the
same.) The nice part is that I can have it open while I am checking my
e-mail
and then make notes as I go.
Hope this helps.

She was born Jan. 30, 1878 in Madison County, Kentucky. She

Dear Charlotte, Smith county was formed from Sumner Co. in 1799
according to
Everton's Handy Book for Genealogists.
Since SC didn't record marriage records until early 1900's and
there are
no birth records either it can be hard to find the exact date. Which
census
records have you searched? About when was the oldest child born?
I also have ancestors who were in SC. Newberry and nearby
Edgefield. I
also have a Baker family. My 2nd grandfather, James McCrary married
Rebecca
Baker about 1830 in Edgefield. I will look at what records I have on
Bakers
in that area. One member of the Coats family moved to Alabama and
married a
descendent of Thomas McCrary. Thomas was a brother of James. None of
mine
from those families were in Tenn.
Hope I can help. Carolyn

Hi everyone...I would like to invite you to add your family info to the

and only have minimual information on them...I'm thinking of setting up
a page that would have these bits and pieces of family info together
with your email address so that people can contact you...if you are
interested and would like to put your family info there, please send me
an email with the info in it...I then will put it together with your

The Battle of Horseshoe Bend was fought March 27, 1814 between the
American army under General Andrew Jackson, numbering about 2000, with
about 200 Cherokee Indian allies, against an unknown number of Creek
Indians. The location was on the Tallapoosa River in Alabama. The place
was also called Tohopeka. Jackson's force defeated the Creeks. The
Creeks
lost about 550 within the bend, which had been fortified, and more in
the
river. Jackson lost 50 killed and 150 wounded.
The Creeks were allied with the British against the Americans. In the
end
they lost giving up one-fifth of Georgia and three-fifths of Alabama.
This brings out a major point of the War Of 1812. The British, Americans
and Canadians did not lose the war. They fought to a draw. The Indians
lost and never recovered.
