Ok, I got a couple more English wills and I'm adding them here....
http://coatsarchive.us/oldenglishwills.htm
Henry Cotes is out of Buckinghamshire, I've got that spelled wrong but
will correct it when I finish with Felix Coates will...
Felix is a mariner, I suspect perhaps young? so there isn't much to
his will, it actually looks more like a power of attorney than a
will...if you have any suggestions for the missing words (?) let me
know... if you have any info on him let me know....

Ok, the DNA test that matched perfectly with my Coats line in the DNA
project, the family is thus: John Hiram Coats born in MO, not sure of
the county yet and found on the 1920 census in Caddo, Bryan County OK:
John H. Coats born MO head of the house age 45
Dela, wife 35 born in Texas (Delila Wilfong)
Mattie, daughter age 15
Bethel, daughter age 13 (has her as a male - so not sure could be a son)
Mildred, daughter age 11
May, daughter age 9
Woodrow, son age 6
John F. (Frederick), son age 4
Stirling P., son age 1 (I'm not at all sure of the spelling of that first name)
Any one familiar with this family in MO or anyone looking for any of
these daughters....
Census image coming...

Liz in Australia has done a wonderful job of translating the old
English will of William Coate in Somerset...most interesting stuff
this...it appears he was in the business of syder/cider making...:) a
common business venture in that part of the country...

Well, here is William Coate of 1658 in England, his will:
http://coatsarchive.us/williamcoate.htm
Now, the will is in bad shape in that I can't make it all out for lack
of complete letters...white spaces in the letters makes it hard to
read...
But this is what it appears to me...
This is William Coate of 1658, he does not appear to name a wife
iindicating she may be dead by this time
sons are: Marmaduke Coate, William Coate, John Coate and dau Joane
Padgir/Padger
his son Marmaduke has a son named Marmaduke
his son William's children are: Elizabeth, Mary, Marmaduke, Joane and
William Coate
Joane Padger children are: Marmaduke Podgir, Robert Podger, Samuel
Podger and John Podgers sonnes of My daughter Joane Podger/Podgir
His son William is the executor of the will...
Again you'll see in Dornan's research he has assumed that perhaps all
the Marmadukes were the same person, but there are at least 2
Marmadukes in this will that would be first cousins...
I'm also wondering if some of the confusion out of NJ on this group
might be that this son William also has a son named Marmaduke but no
indication he ever came to American...or which Marmaduke came to
America for that matter...

Christopher Coates of Delaware has sent copies of the record of the
Old Coats burying ground in Philadelphia PA..included in this record
is also the Bible record for John and Mary Coats..
This information also verifies the info about there being two William
Coats, one whoses wife is Margaret, which i believe is the Col William
Coats of the Revolution and William Coats whoses wife is Martha...
