PROB 11/567
Will of Charles Coates, Carman of Saint Olave Southwark, Surrey
Charles Coates - Will - England
son: Charles Coates
mother: Mary Coates
brother: William Coates
Joan Coates
Susannah Coates
Lowry Coates
Mary Coates
signed: 1718 Charles Coates
wit: Richard Trigg, John Holmes, Thos Maddison
his wife is still alive but she's not named
The last four Coates above maybe the heirs and children of his brother
William Coates
the actual will reads: *my brother William Coates and his heires, the
second to Joan Coates, the third to Susannah Coates and the fourth
being # 316 or 310 to Lowry or Isowoy Coates and Mary Coates* then
again these may be Charles' kids...these #65 and #310 or 316 are
refered to as currooms or carrooms (not sure of the spelling or what
these are)
These records look really good, they come in PDF downloads...easy to
read but in the old English writing...they take all major credit
cards...most I looked at were at least 2 pages in length, costs are
3.50 pounds per document...the wills go back to the early 1600s

lol...thanks Melvin....I think it's ok to be nationalistic....:)
We're such a mix over here we can relate to everyone....:)
That still appears to be a good deal....when you consider the time and
costs for shipping internationally...so being able to download them
via the web is really nice...:) Those wills really go back in time...

Wow...
Drooling over these records in England available over the web...you
can purchase a copy at a time....:) I may have to give it a try to
see what happens...I think you pay for it and then view it via the web

They are searchable...oh, my...we just need to get back a bit further....:)
Can you image doing family history research say in 50 years...what a
difference way they will have in doing it....:) Now if we can just
get the US to follow suit...however, that LDS indexing will be equally
as good....and I think they're going to attach the scanned documents

Here's the rest of the records out of Barbados...there are probably as
many James' there as there are Johns in SC...this Philip was born in
1688...no indication here of any Irish descent except for the Henry
Coates I believe it was...
Jan 30, 1797: John son of Henry Coates 2nd Irish Brigade & Elizabeth
his wf, b Jan 13 inst
But there is no indication any of the others earlier are of Irish
descent but the records state that these are English Settlers in
Barbados...and apparently those settling here immigrated and spread
out all over the place, up and down the east coast...
http://coatsarchive.us/barbadosrecords.htm
The table needs to be fixed...I used an MS spread sheet and it didn't
work well in my Frontpage...but all things in time...the info is still
there and readable....:)

This from our last DNA member across the Pond...:)
******************
I currently live in Leicestershire, England but my father and
grandfather came from Kent and before that 3 further generations from
Warden, Northumberland back to 1800. Other possible ancestors in Warden
back to about 1713. The nearest geographical link in the DNA database
would be the Durham sample. Besides my immediate family there are not
many other male Coats that I can find.
*****************
So we'll see how it goes....:)

This is from the Baker DNA project but just wanted to let you see how
DNA can be a real help...Char
Good morning on this bright and beautiful Monday morning!! We have
new 12 marker results for Robert Hutson who was sponsored by Paula
Jones and it looks like her research has been proved correct. Robert
is a perfect 12 marker match with the large yellow Baker group. This
is what Paula wrote:
"My ancestor was born a Baker but his father died in 1840 Texas then
by 1842 his mother remarried a man named Hutson/Hudson the ancestor
always used the name Baker Hutson for his last name. But the next
generation only used Hutson. We are really wanting to locate a father
for our Robert Pinckney Baker Hutson but don't have any proof. It is
speculated that his father was the same James A. Baker that was listed
on the census of Texas in 1840."
Now we must figure out just how James A. Baker fits into the Baker family.
