Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Dear All:
As you all know, Rootsweb is under a major reconstruction
and upgrading program. New servers are being installed etc.
>From time to time, there are problems accessing various parts
of the sites. Here is the latest information from Tim Pierce as
of last night. It looks like another week or so to finally get it all
done. The lists that he refers to is primarily the mailing lists
but also some of the search engines etc.
Should be faster, better etc when it's all done.
There are more details posted on the Rootsweb home page.
Best Regards

Marmaduke Coate (b. 1733 or 1738) as the son of William and Rachel Ann Budd and grandson of William and Rebecca Sharp Coate is a longstanding error in many Coate publications. We have a first hand document that disproves this lineage as presented. It is in the deed records for Hunterdon Co., NJ in about 1783 from memory. In it, all the daughters of William and Rebecca Sharp Coate and their spouses give their brother Barzilla Coate all rights too the land he inherited from his brothers as each and all of them died WITHOUT ISSUE (without having children). In this document Barzilla agreed to reimburse each of his sisters families for said lands. In other words, only Barzilla, son of William and Rebecca Sharp Coate had left sons. None of his other brothers left descendants. As for the possibility that William married to Rachel Ann Budd Coate is the father of Marmaduke, b. abt 1738 of Newberry, SC, I have spent a lifetime researching this and come to the clear conclusion!
that this is not so either. There is only one documented Marmaduke of this age bracket in Newberry Co., SC and he is the son of Henry Coate originally of Hunterdon Co., NJ. He was a distant cousin of the William married to Rebecca Sharp. For further evidence to support these statements, please refer to my extensive write up on Marmaduke on my homepage at www.ancestrees.com . I hope this helps. Please write if you should have further questions.
