Hi there!
if your Coakleys went to the US directly from Ireland I'm afraid I won't be
able to help you. I have only traced mine back to 1881 census in Cardiff,
Wales when my GGGranparents John COKELEY (sic) and Mary (nee DONOVAN) were
64 and 63 and said they were born in Ireland. My GGranparents John COAKLEY
and Annie (nee CONDREN) were 23 and 19. my GMother Violet was born in 1888
and she and Ivor MORGAN(S) had my father Windsor in 1909. One of his
brothers was called Bernard Coakley MORGAN, but none of the others bore that
name.
Should you have come across John and Mary COKELEY/ COAKLEY/ or variation I
would be very pleased to know.
By accident, I printed out an item in the 1881 census which had John COKELEY
as head of household. He had staying with him 2 grandsons born in New York
john and Dennis LEARY aged 5 and 3. wonder if that is of any use to anyone?
Good luck with your search.

Hi Patricia,
I have a friend who has COAKLEYs in King George County, Virginia. He says he
has always heard his COAKLEYs came from Cork. I just thought I would send
that along to you. His COAKLEY came over before the Revolutionary War.
Kindest regards,

Some how I recieved your e-mail about the Coakley Family tree. I and one of
my older sisters play around withe The Family tree. Our part of the Coakley
family is and was mostly in the area of south central Ohio USA . I am 66 yrs
old and have been collecting bits and pieces of the family name all over. I
was in scotland for two years but never had the oportunity to visit Ireland.
But can verify that the Name comes from county Cork in southern Ireland. I
can go back in my family as far as a John Coakley and a Mary but we do not
know her Maiden Name and we only have an aprox date abt mid 1800. My great
grand father was born in 1854 the last of 9 known children from John Coakley
and Mary. Don't know where they were born but they died and were buried in
Southern Ohio so I have been told. I have not personally seen the markers. I
go visit and take photos of head stones to help build and keep a growing and
accurate record. Its much easer to look at a photo to back up a smugded date
to keep up to date. I will try to Help yo Put your information into a
satisfactory format. Just give me a little time.. Ohm My name is Leo Edward
Coakley SR and I live in Aberdeen Maryland, USA I was born in Lancaster
Ohio and am twice retired once from the Military(USN)and also from civil
service Hope to hear from you with more information... Leo Coakley
Dear Listers
Haven't fathomed out how to send a family tree, so
here is a brief resume of the family I am researching.
My grandwmother Violet COAKLEY.born 4th April 1888,
married Ivor MORGAN(S), died Cardiff 11th Dec.
1940.Her parents were John and Annie (formerley
CONDREN) COAKLEY.
In the 1881 census John was aged 23 and a Boiler
Maker. Annie was 19 and they had a dau Annie M aged 2.
John and Annie were born in Cardiff.
John was born 3rd June 1858 in Cardiff to John and
Mary (late CROWLEY, formerly DONOVAN) COAKLEY. J was a
farm labourer.
In the 1881 census there are a John and Mary COKELY
aged 64 and 63, both born in Ireland. Not sure if
these are the same, as I have not had the chance to
check earlier censuses. (They also have a Cornelius
O'CONNELL with them on census night.)
Family legend always said that the family came from Co
Cork, but have no proof of this.
Any help from your listers would be much appreciated.
