Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
To all:
I've just started to try to find out about my Coakley ancestors. In the process of poking around in the www, I found this mailing list. Dan Coakley, the admin., has just encouraged me to post what I know so far to see if anyone else knows anything.
So -
We are all from Pittsfield, Massachusetts. As far as I can tell so far, my great grandfather (Timothy Coakley) came to the US through Philadelphia in 1874 (he was born in 1866) with his family when he was 8 years old. His father's name was David Coakley, his mother's name was Catherine Driscoll. The entry I can find for Timothy (and his brother David) say their birth records were registered in Ross Carberry, Cork.
I can't so far find any trace of David, the father, or Catherine, the mother. I can find lots of Coakleys in Ross Carberry and lots and lots more in that area of Cork.
But - I've only just started doing this and this coming weekend hope to find more clues in the local cemetery and in the National Archives in Lenox, MA. So maybe by next week I'll have more threads to follow.
In the meantime, does what I know so far ring any bells with anyone?
Thanks very much for any information - this whole thing is very humbling!
Lynn Coakley Eaton
