Hi,
I'm searching for descendants of Adam Brown Crosby, former Mayor of Halifax, NS in the hopes of finding more information about his wife's family. I suspect one of his sisters-in-law was my g-grandmother, Rosella Cody (or Coady) but not sure at all.
I'm also searching for any descendants of Capt. Thomas and Theresa Cody.
Rosella Cody was born in Halifax in 1859 and was married to Captain Angus Macdonald. She died at sea in 1883. This is from the Halifax Chronicle in Oct. 1883:
"A letter received here from Montevideo, from Capt. A.B. McDONALD of ship "Nicosia" of St. John contains the sad intelligence of the death of his wife, Rosella McDONALD on 19th July last and that she was buried at sea. The ship was then on passage from Cardiff to Montevideo. The deceased had two children on board, the youngest being about 9 mos. old. Mrs. McDonald was a native of Halifax, N.S. and a d/o Mrs. T. CODY. She resided in Saint John for some years."
One of the children on board was my grandfather, Capt. John Macdonald. In trying to track down "Mrs. T. Cody" I have only found one likely candidate in Halifax, a Theresa Cody who was mother-in-law to A.B. Crosby.
A.B. Crosby (b. 1859 in Belfast, Ireland; d. 1921 in Ottawa) married Marie F. "Minnie" or "Mamie" Cody of Halifax, NS on Jan. 15, 1885 in Newfoundland. Crosby served as mayor, MP and a member of the Canadian Senate. Minnie's parents were Capt. Thomas Cody and Theresa Cody (I think Theresa'a maiden name was Berrigan and that she and her husband were both born in Newfoundland but moved to Halifax at some point).
Recently, I received a copy of the death notice of Theresa Cody from the Jan. 30, 1898 Halifax Chrinicle Herald:
"The death occurred suddenly yesterday of Mrs. Theresa Cody, proprietress of the Oxford House, at the corner of Hurd's Lane and Lockman Street. Mrs. Cody had attended the 11 o'clock mass at St.Mary's cathedral and was on her way home. On Barrington street, opposite the parade, she felt ill, and knocking at the door of James. M. Godfrey, asked to go in and rest for a few minutes, hoping that soon she would be able to proceed. But she became worse, and a moment or two after being seated fell over to the floor. Dr. Finn was called, but could do nothing and in less than an hour after entering the house she was dead.
The relatives will have sincere sympathy in this bereavement. A.B. Crosby is a son-in-law of the deceased. There is another married daughter in this city, and a son resides in the United States."
There was no mention in the death notice of any family members who had predeceased Theresa Cody, so I'm wondering if there are any Cody, Coady or Crosby descendants out there who may have more information. Thank you!

My g-g-grandfather Stephen Cody (Coady) was b. abt. 1820 in Clonmel, Tipperary, IRE which is very close to Carrick-on-Suir. He married Bridget and the family moved to Manchester, Eng. About 1875 many of them immigrated to MA.
Can you give me more info. about your family? Please reply either way if you get this message.

Hi,
I'm trying to find a death notice or obituary for a woman I believe to be my gg-grandmother. Theresa Coady died Jan. 30 1898 in Halifax, NS. She was born in Newfoundland, and ran a hotel in Halifax. I believe she had a daughter named Rosella, who married my g-grandfather, Captain Angus Macdonald. Also, i think her maiden name was Berrigan but not sure. Is there anyone in Halifax who may be able to find Theresa Coady's obituary from the local newspaper? My direct email is jimcondon(a)lycos.com Thanks!

Jim
Sadly, the Michael T. Coady (Cody) that I'm looking for, born in Charlottetown PEI, was born in 1866 and emmigrated to the states in 1880 - all of which seems to fall when either no census was taken or I just can't find the info on line. Are you aware of any family that this Michael T Coady could fit into?
Thanks so much for the help.
