Hey Dan,
I have not found the name Flanagan in my family tree. I cannot account for about half of my g-g-grandfather's siblings, so I am not sure if any moved to Quebec.

Hi Janice, yes, I've been looking at your posts and it seems likely that there is a connection with Patzy's and your rellies but without all my papers I can't put my finger on the common denominator. I am based in Dublin next to the National Archives, so I need to pull my finger out and get cracking again! If I can verify anything for you via the National Archives or any of the resources in Dublin, feel free to contact me offlist. I am often in Tipperary so I'll keep in touch if I find anything interesting. I'm hoping to nail some of the Parish records in Fethard this summer as I think there's a lot there not properly searched although I did trawl them once. Don't worry about the Cody/Coady spelling. Nine times out of ten this was due to the fact that the people who registered the birth couldn't read/write well or at all and the spelling was done according to how the Parish Priest recorded it in the Parish records. In my family history I have found both variations. Cheers P!

Jim:
My name is Dan Flanagan and I reside here in Austin, TX.
My Flanagan family moved to New Brunswick between 1823 and 1826, lived there until 1830, at which time they moved to Stoneham, north of Quebec City. One of these kids, Bridget Flanagan, married a Coady.
So . . . do you have any Flanagans in your family tree or did any of your Coadys move to near Quebec City?
Thanks in advance,
Dan

Dear Patzy and Philippa,
I have wanted to respond to your messages for the past few months and have waited till information might appear which could link my family. I am a Coady / Cody relation, that were from Cashel, The Rock, and Thurles. My great Grandfather was called James Coady b 1859ish who married1881 a Bridget Fitzpatrick b 1863. They had 9 girls and three boys only one survived. James's father was called Thomas I have no more information at this point on him.The names of the girls list as Anne, Elizabeth, Bridget, Catherine, Jean, Ellen, Mary, Mary Ellen, Hanna? Boys list as: Thomas, John, Christopher(called Joseph)
I will say that The Cody's lived at a farm 'Bohemore'in Cashel see 'Grittiths Valuation'This dwelling no longer exists it has bungalows on it now.(I had a chat with someone else researching coady's in the Cashel area , we began talking about the coady's / cody's split in the name, it could be due to distiguising a first marriage and second marriage - the second marriage family inherited the family money and the first did not but that is a rumour.) At the moment I have not fully connected to them still searching. I would like to know if any of you can connect my Gt.grandfather James Coady/Cody to a Thomas Coady / Cody. I wondered who the brothers of Michael Coady were? James was born around 1859, I think he may have had a sister or aunt called Bridget. Can any of you link to this info.

There could certainly be a connection as we are talking roughly about the same timeframe. My father was born in 1920 and was almost the youngest of 18, the eldest being born in 1901 and all sharing the same names as your Grandmother's family (as did all families!) which doesn't make it any easier. My Grandfather fought in France in WW1 but survived. Dean Ryan in St John's in Cashel had his Sexton search the parish records for me (he wouldn't let me do it myself) and came up with the dates of birth and baptisms of all my father's siblings. We need to establish a connection between my grandfather John Coady born 18.Dec 1879 and your grandmother Catherine Coady which could be Uncle/niece given the 30 year age gap. John Coady's father was Michael Coady married to Ellen Power.Unfortunately since my return toDublin I have not yet found anywhere permanent to live as I am waiting for the property market to settle so I am in rented accommodation and all my personal effects are in st!
orage so I still don't have access to my research files! Much of this is from memory! If you can email me offlist we could work on this: philippa.coady(a)gmail.com Cheers Philippa

Thanks for the note Patzy, I am hoping that when we visit Kilkenny and Dublin end May,that some of the census data will provide answers. Have finally tracked down the military number of my Grandfather John Coady no.7689 and some Regimental Orders 1911,1913 and 1914 of the Royal Irish Regiment when in India.I found a previously deceased Uncle, John Patrick Coady b 1913. Visiting the National Archives, London, in March and hope to find traces of two other un-named aunts or Uncles that assumingly died in India. Also ,by accident found a letter from a Lt Colonel re my Grandfather as a servant to various Officers in WW1 and therefore probably spent little time at the front and thus survived.Happy Searching John

Hi Janice ,sorry for the delay in responding. Have some data, however ,have not established the links between the Coady names. Will come back with summary in ten days or so. In the meantime would suggest that you look at some of the family trees, as they may also give you a lead, best regards John

Yeah Ive found Richard, Mary & family plus other Coady & Callaghan family in the 1911 census, its wonderful to browse these records isnt it. I spend a lot of time just looking, sad I know but it keeps me out of the pub hahaha.
Do you think we may have any connection? Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Regards Patzy C

Hi Jim, yes there may be a connection but I have yet to find the birth certificate or the death certificate of my GG-Grandfather. I only have the date of his marriage in Fethard, Co. Tipp, but given that most women married in their home town and my GG-Grandmother was from Fethard, then my GG-Grandfather could have been a blow-in from somewhere else (and Co Kilkenny is only down the road). I have trawled the Fethard Parish records and could not trace him. I am now back working in Dublin and lo and behold my office is next door to the National Archives .. what luck! Cheers Philippa

Hi Philippa,
I can't help but notice the similarities in our two families; My father, John James Coady, was born in 1922, but in Prince Edward Island, Canada. His siblings (16 of them), were born in PEI and Massachusetts, USA. My grandfather, John Edward Coady (b. 29 February 1884), and my great-grandfather, James A. Cody (b. 1854) were both born in PEI. My great-great-grandfather was Laurence Cody, born about 1815 in County Kilkenny. I suspect, but have not confirmed, he had brothers named John and William, and possibly his father's name was John, as well. Laurence came to Canada before 1841, probably around 1830.
Best regards,
Jim Coady

Hi Janice (better late than never!) Been busy settling back in Dublin. My father James Coady born 1920, his siblings (18) of them, were all born in Cashel and baptised in St. John's, Cashel. My Grandfather John Coady, born 18 December 1879 was born in Fethard (18 kilometres from Cashel). My Great Grandfather was Michael Coady born in Fethard (roughly 1850s) but married Ellen Power from Clonmel. My GreatGreat Grandfather was John Coady, probably born about 1818 (not located the birth cert yet and that may be because he was not born in Co. Tip. I suspect he was born in Co. Kilkenny or Co. Waterford). He married Mary O'brien from Fethard. I'm just getting back into it and it should be easier now as I'm back in Dublin. I just have to make the time! Cheers Philippa

Many thanks Janice, there are in fact 19 John Coady's listed as qualifying for WW1 medals. I eventually reduced this number to three possibles. Through accident i came across a letter dated 1919 in the possession of an aunt giving his army number as 7689. It became apparent that one of the possible reasons for his survival could have been that he was the possible servant to a number Lt Colonel's and hence i assume would have been behind the lines presumably at the Royal Irish Regiment 1st Battalion HQ for a large proportion of his time in France.Best Regards.John

Dear Patzy_
I am from part of the Coady's (Cody) of Cashel decendants - My grandfather was called James coady b1863 ish. he was married to Bridget Fitzpatrick b 1865 in 1881 in Thurles, Tipperary, he was 21 she was 19. They lived on The Rock of cashel, though I think he owned a place called 'Bohomore' a farm which he rented out to a family relative possibly a brother. however I have not been able to find more details yet of either of them other than their fathers names Thomas Coady and Josepth Fitzpatrick- wife anne. Can anyone link with these details. They had eight / nine girls and one living boy josepth who died in WWI 1918 he gained Military medal in 1916.
