I have a grandfather born about that time named michael joseph cody, he changed it from Coady to Cody.
Before that his father Edward changed it from Mc Coady.
Michael worked for foster and kleizer in portland oregon and was married to Maybel Kennedy from Pennsylvania. His sons were Wayne E., Robert J.,Eugene F. and Kevin ?. They settled in Oregon in the 1800s from Ireland.

Hi,
On first pass I would say no, it doesn't look like these names synch up date-wise with Coady's in my tree. Feel free to review the tree yourself though (can you see it)?

Hi,
I realise this post was quite a while ago but I'm hoping to link up with Irish Coadys.
My ancestor was John William, possibly born in Wicklow in 1823. His wife was Betty b 1831 and son Michael b 1846. They then moved to Macclesfield where John, Elizabeth, and William were born. Do they match any Coadys you have?

Hi Jim, have made a few more enquiries into Coady relatives, mainly in the Graignamanagh , Kilkenny and Clonmel, Tipperary area. Have not seen a Lawrence Coady recorded. Have traced a great great grandfather Edward Coady of mine born approx 1840.Other names I have traced when tracking down my Great Grandmother ( Mary Coady)are James, Henry, Nicholas Richard, Thomas, Michael, and Pierce, but alas no Lawrence, best of luck John

Hello!
I think I might be able to help. One of my ancestors was Patrick Henry Walsh of Rantoul, and I think Mary was one of his daughters. My e-mail is estase73(a)live.com and my snail mail is Shannon Walsh, 503S. Dudley Macomb, IL 61455. If you think Mary is the same Mary as P.H. Walsh's daughter, drop me a line and I'll help as I can.

Like yourself most of us have come across conflicting information concerning illegitimate births (so called scandals) information which may send us searching in all directions but we continue - we must be crazy! haha.
The Graiguenamagh Im refering to is a parish both civil & RC.
Here is the link for the IFHF ...
https://brsgenealogy.com/kilkenny/login.php
This is a easy search engine that can give great clues, all you need to do is register its free, if need be you can purchase records for 5euro.
You say John returned to Ireland - you could search for Johns death on this site. Good luck fellow Coady, let me know how you get on. If you think I can help just drop me a line.

Hi Patzy, my cousin informs me that Mary Coady was "in service" in a large house in Graiguenamagh and therefore it is the most likely birth.Or was Graiguenamagh the name of the house/estate? I need to check where this place is in relation to the other parishes. I do not have access to IFHF, does it provide any details re mary. I am visiting my uncle (John Coady aged 88)tomorrow who states he has a copy of a birth certificate with only ref to the mother. He also believes that his Father told him that he was born in the US and his mother died in chilbirth. My Aunt age 86 thinks that John Coady did not want to tell his son that he was born illegitimate. Will see what further I find out, assuming we can travel tomorrow as we have a lot of snow.best regards John

Hello again John. Im not sure if you will have checked this out yourself but according to the IFHF there are three records refering to John Coady born 1885 in County Kilkenny.....
One civil birth GRAIGUENAMANAGH also a Church Baptism in GRAIGNAMANAGH. When I entered fathers surname as Coady there was no match!!!!
The other is a Church Baptism in THOMASTOWN (fathers surname was Coady)
No result for Urlingford but I will still check the church records of Urlingford just incase.
This is only a suggestion as I would hate to send you off in the wrong direction but the Graiuenamangh birth is worth checking out if only to eliminate. Whats your thoughts?
Regards Patzy C UK

Hi Patzy, that would be great. We think his birth date was may 1885 and his mother was Mary Coady (unmarried). The other key date would be to obtain Mary Coady's birth date and possibly the name of her parents which may link into your relatives. There were 84 Coady's including 19 John Coady's who qualified for Medals in World War 1, so with so many people who had the same christian (first) name I know tracking people will not be easy. Best of Luck and Thanks John

Sorry Jim , Laurence is not a name I have come across. In some instances I think that the parish records have not been fully recorded, the only course of action would be to visit Kilkenny. I am informed by a cousin that Kilkennie has a geneology center and also a civil registry of births death and marriages.best of luck, regards John

Hi John,
By chance, have you run across the name of my great-great-grandfather, Laurence CODY, in your research? He was born in 1815, and according to his grave stone, was "a native of County Kilkenny, Ireland". All the Canadian census records also indicate he was born in Ireland, and I have been unable to find him in the online Irish records. He settled in Prince Edward Island, Canada, circa 1832, and married Ann CLANSE(Y) from Newfoundland (British Province at the time).
Best regards,
Jim Coady
