My grandfather (Fred Coady, Kinkora, PEI) has passed on a 'legend' of three Coady brothers from Ireland who emigrated to Atlantic Canada during the great potato famine. For some reason, they split up when they settled in Canada. One settled in Nova Scotia, one in PEI and one in Newfoundland. I know there are Coady clans in all three of those provinces (the one in NS helped found St. Francis Xavier University, the one in NF is the largest of the three, and my family is from PEI). Anyone else out there ever hear this story or can correct it?
Thanks,
Mark

.. just read a reply to another query by Tim McCormack ... the Coady from St. FXU that I referred to earlier is, I believe, the Father Moses Coady that Tim McCormack refers to in his reply ...

Hi,
Are you already aware of the Coady clan in Nova Scotia? There are a lot of them in Cape Breton and Antigonish County, both of which border Guysborough County. Saint Francis Xavier University has a founding father by the name of Coady. I have heard that that Coady was also the person who developed the idea of the farmer's co-operative (at least for the Maritimes).
Sorry, this isn't very helpful for your specific question.

I am the great-granddaughter of Walter Vance Coady who settled in Washington State. Walter was adopted when he was young by a family named Coady. He was at least part Native American, and was either born in North Carolina or Lincoln Co., AK. I believe it was probably NC from stories that I've heard. Had a half brother named Oscar Sweatman - also two sisters that were Native American. Walter married Myra (Elmire?) Kellett of Missouri on Sept. 19, 1900. He was born July 8, 1883.
I would greatly appreciate ANY info concerning Walter Vance Coady. THANK YOU!!
