Every time a significant dataset comes out I learn something new. Here it is BDM of Maine, on Ancestry.
First I find out that Edward Coad~1778, joiner of Maine, the first Coad in the Americas, actually married there three times though he was childless. He was living with a lady in the 1810-30 Census in Limerick Maine. As an Englishman he was interred in the 1812 war. From 1840 he was in Portland. He married the widow Clarissa Hicks nee Brackett in 1835 but she died in 1842. He married another widow Mary Glossum in 1843 and died before 1840.
The records provide no information about the family of John Coad of Looe, blacksmith, who emigrated to Maine in 1825 and had a family in Eastport.
However another family that I had thought lost has been located in these records. The main line of Ermington Coads in the New World descends from Robert Coad 1749-1835 and Priscilla Skibbow Hooke, but Robert's younger brother Richard also had descendants. His great grandson William Richard Coad and his family emigrated to Maine about 1877. The two daughters had families there, but it is believed the only son William did not marry.

Hm I know the family quite well, but didnt know about Richard being a
coastguard. Do you have any evidence of this? Or of Elizabeth Hore his wife
being from Penzance? I have her as born Truro 1783.
Richard was the son of Peter Coad and Elizabeth Kempe. You can see Elizabeth
Coad nee Hore in the 1841 census. Her daughter Elizabeth is there too, with
three of her six illegitimate children.
We have a long standing argument about several members of this family. For
example, the daughter Mary Ann of Richard and Elizabeth married a Richard
Call in Penkivel 1831. I think the Mary Ann Coad that Russ refers to was
of a different unrelated family christened 1818 Truro, and that she never
married Pincombe or her subsequent man Joseph Halls.
