To everyone on the Coad list.
I just read back "The unsolved questions" which was one of the first posts on my blog about four years ago. Most have been solved to my reasonable satisfaction - generally in the negative. Of 52 questions - about 17 are still outstanding. Of course we now have a bunch of new questions!
Seasons greetings
Joe Flood (just finished rough draft of Chapter 8, Looe and Crowan Coads).

I have a copy of the probate record for the estate of Joseph Stillman
COAD who was born in Rockland, Maine on Feb. 19, 1862 the son of
Joseph & Margaret (CLARK) COAD. He was the grandson of John & Mary
(MCDONALD) Coad of Easport, Maine.
If anyone is interested I would be glad to email you a transcribed copy.
Joe, I have a Thomas Coad in my line who lived and worked in Idaho Springs
Colorado. What dates are there for the birth info of the Thomas you are
referring to?

Joe,
We have a Thomas Coad who traveled back and forth from UK to Colorado where
his relatives worked in the mines. Thomas may have been listed that way as
a mine worker. Where did you see the reference to Thomas in US census or UK
census or in some other documentation. I have the birth information on
Thomas.

Family Tree DNA, which we use for most of our DNA work, is running their annual special again. Prices are discounted by about $20. So if any COADs have been meaning to get around to a test, now is the time. For ladies - please find a male relative.
We would never have untangled the secret of the Coads without DNA - the separate families are just too old going way back to the 1400s in some instances. Now we pretty much know the score - but there are a number of lines whose origin and family tree remain in doubt. If you belong to one of these - please consider joining our project at
