Sounds interesting. The family bible I have has a lot of names written into it - lots of the 'Wills' family. One entry says Mary Wills XXXX(?) Gorran, St Austell October 30th 1811 - presume it's Mary's birth. Then further down it says William Coad Mary XXXX (there is a surname that repeats itself in the bible entries, but I can't read it) married July 6 1850. Then a Coad child is born May 22 1852 also called Mary. William Coad then dies December 6th aged 54 (1852). Then Mary Coad marries John Martin July 1856. The writing is really hard to read...think I need a handwriting expert..how fustrating!!

An oldie but a goodie. Thanks for the info on John Martin
Now it looks as if William did marry twice.

Never got around to replying to this!
The John Martin that I am speaking about was born to William and Eliza Martin in Lanreath rather than Thomas Martin and Mary HIcks (the otherside of the family). Their son (also called John) was born in 1822 in Pelynt as you say. Whereas the John Martin I refer to was originally a basechild and was born sometime before June 1826. He was the one that worked in the Talbot Inn - married Mary Coad and then lived in the Inn in Fowey ( Commercial Inn now Safe Habour Hotel) and went on to live with his sister - living off his own means. The census may be wrong but it looks like Mary was born around 1815.
