Seasons Greetings to everyone who has helped put together the massive sprawling tale of the ancient Coads and Coodes of Cornwall and Devon.
The first related publication is being featured in ISOGG newsletter for Dec (International Society of Genetic Genealogy). It's just a brief description of how we tracked down the ancient Y-DNA of CODE and found four intact lines of 8th-11th cousins from the 16th century. The editor writes "That is a FABULOUS story! Thanks for submitting it and I'd like to feature it in the December ISOGG newsletter. The newsletter has about 4,300 subscribers."
I think it is time also I moved on documenting the study. The first publication will be the Book of Code, an episodic self-published thing similar to my blog but covering more ground. The aim will be to raise money to finish off the DNA study.
In the longer term I have a project to write a people's history of Cornwall told by the CODEs and their descendants. While the Coodes and Coads were on the whole quiet industrious people with barely a whiff of scandal or drama, somehow they seemed to be involved in or on the edge of virtually every major event in Cornish history - and quite a few in other countries too. Anyway that is just one of numerous project I always have planned and rarely implement, being at best a sporadic writer.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Joe Flood
Feliz Navidad to all.
