Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Fremont and Omaha likely same family of Coads, from Wexford/Waterford in
Ireland.
These Coads will turn up in Nebraska in Goering, Scotts Bluff, Fremont
and Omaha, as well as in Cheyenne, Wyoming (Cheyenne Social Club, etc.)
Brothers were Pioneer ranchers (their ranch holdings bordered Cody's,
from what I understand)
They sold primary Nebraska and Wyoming ranch holdings in the 1880s. I
believe Mark Coad retired to Fremont, Neb. to raise horses, while
brother John F. moved his family to Omaha where he bought the Packers
National Bank.

Id like to welcome Sarah Hellyer to our list. Her ancestor is her g3gm Catherine Sandecombe, East Looe 1823-1915 (daughter of Ann Coad), who married three times.
I believe Ann is the daughter of John Coade/Elizabeth Bumard, who had an illegitimate son John 1812 Liskeard, then married John Sandecombe 1814 and had 5 children in Looe (Wesleyan). I think that makes Sarah a cousin of yours Nigel and Ed, if you'd like to check it out?
Joe
Hi Jo,
Jen and I are the couple who now live in Darlington, Western Australia -
your old stamping ground I believe?
I'll paste a list of Jenny's ancestors to bring you up to date on her branch
of the family.
Jersey is an island of only 45 square miles and is about 15 miles off the
coast of France. While we were there (1966-1973) it had a permanent
population of 70,000, which increased 50% during the summer holiday season
when tourists and itinerant workers flooded in. Nothing is far from the
coast in Jersey. I was a policeman there all that time and was stationed in
St Helier and St Brelade. I was also a Police Diver, which was quite
exciting at times with a spring tide of around 40 feet, producing really
fast water flows.

Hi Peter
As far as I know the Jersey Lecaudes have been extinct for a very long
time - none appear in any census.
A blacksmith called James Coad did turn up in St Brelade before 1841 - took
me a long time to estimate who he probably was. He married an Irishwoman,
had several daughters, and moved back to England before 1871.
The family of the famous George Benson Coode resided in St Heliers for quite
a while too. Im not certain how the connection arose - but the family were
loaded and tended to hang out in seaside resorts.
Its so long since we communicated Ive forgotten who your Jenny is descended
from. Would you mind reminding me?
Cheers
Joe

According to a book written by his sister, William Cody was descended from
the LeCaudes of Jersey in the Channel Islands who emigrated to Canada. - and
not from the Irish Codys.
It seems likely that the Codds of East Anglia are also descended from the
Franch Lecaudes (a town in Normandy). However I have never seen an example
of a name interchange Coad/Coady - they are just pronounced too differently.

Great work Ed. I have been searcing all over Illinois for Henry M's but unsurprisingly didnt consider Henry C THOMPSON too closely. It is possible his middle name was Coad or similar.
Before we get too snooty about being "real" Coads I think we should remember that COAD is not an ancient name like CODE or CODD, and that we all changed our variant somewhere along the track.
>From the point of view of my study, I regard someone as "real" if they kept the name for more than one generation, preferably two.

Interesting! I've absolutely NO "evidence" However, out "oral" history
says Buffalo Bill was related to our branch of the Coad family.

Missouri in 1880 Census. I think this is your man.
1880 U.S Census
Head: Harry COAD, b. abt 1845 PA (age 35), farm laborer
Wife: Nannie COAD, b. abt 1850 PA (age 30), housewife
Dau: Ida COAD, b. abt 1868 MO (age 12)
Son: Charles COAD, b. abt 1873 MO (age 7)
Son: Wm. COAD, b. abt 1887 MO (age 3)
Son: Emmett COAD, b. abt Dec 1889 MO (age 6mo)
Br in-law: Wm COADY, b abt 1861 NEB (age 19)
BTW - Birth place for parents of father Harry, mother Nannie and brother
in-law William COADY is written as Unknown.
Does anyone connect with this family?
Ed Coad
Hi Breanne
What I have about the family is all up on worldconnect, database 'lizardcoads'. This Coad family was perhaps the only one to survive on the Lizard Peninsula after 1900.
Can you tell me something about the descendants of Jacob? I would greatly appreciate it, as would your Australian cousins.
Best regards

Yes those ancestry trees are a bit of a pest - it's why I use rootweb worldconect so that everyone can see the trees. Also I prefer the rootsweb format - the Ancestry one is more suited to family historians wanting to share with other family members than to genealogists i.m.o.

Family trees i.e. gedcom files can be posted (uploaded) to rootsweb World
Connect and they allow access to these records for FREE.
go to:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igmuser.cgi

Thanks Joe and Ed. I am confused now! I see I have one that is not current
on worldconnect.rootsweb. The one I have been updating in on Ancestry and I
can't see how to download it to use it on the other one. I thought if it was
in the OneWorld Tree area it was public!

Hi this e-mail may seem very strange. I was trying to look up some
information for my mom about some of or family history and it seems to have

Having become more or less au fait with the US families, I thought I would take a stab at reconstructing the families in the 1900 US census. Im about half done but have struck some problems, mostly due to constant name changes by the CUDEs and the Irish CODDs. Ive also run into two English Codds and a COARD who have changed to good old COAD.
Can anyone help me with the following two families from Saline Co Missouri?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
1900 US Census. Grand Pass, Saline MO. Charles B Code (03/1873 Kansas, farm lab, m 4 yrs , parents MO and IN) and Susie (1875 MO) with Eunice (1898 MO)
1910 US Census. Grand Pass, Saline MO. Charles B Coad (37, Kansas, farmer, m 14) and Susie A (34, MO) with Eunice (11) Florence (9) Charles B (9) Josie (2). All MO. Boarder John B Yates (38)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1900 US Census. Clay Saline Missouri. Henry M Coad (1840 IL, day lab, parents VA, m 33 yrs) and Nancy (1857 Indiana, 8/6 children) with Ida May (1869 Kansas) James Ernest (1879 MO) Anna Maud (1882 MO) Della (1885 MO)
1910 US Census. Grand Pass, Saline MO. Harry M Coad (70 IL, m 41 yrs) and Nancy R (56, Indiana, 8/6 children) with Maude (27 MO) Della (25 MO)
------------------------------------------------------------
Problem is I cant find Charles B Code/Coad of Kansas, or Henry M Coad of Illinois/ Kansas in any earlier census
Can anyone help me with these?
