Thank you.
In the absence of a very clear paper trail, I'd like to make you aware of
one means of showing that John was a Looe Coad - and that is through Y-DNA.
For that, you need a living male COAD of your line to take the test.
Unfortunately, the last male Coad I can see descended from John/Mary
McDonald is Joseph A Coad 1890, and he doesnt appear in a census after 1910.
Happy New Year

Hi Phil Wilcock;
Thanks for enlightening me about this.
It's been some time as I been laid up since I looked at my collected research.
We also have the book, ( Wilton's of Cornwall) and a book of Cornwall early
times..
I Had spinal surgery 27 feb. 07, and just abt. 1 month ago been able to get
back to Genealogy somewhat. My hands and arms and feet are still in numb and
I was in rear ended by another person and got whip lash injuries
abt. 15 yr's apart. Now have 2 spacer's, a plate and 3 screws on spinal
area.
Have abt. 8 more months for hopefully a better recovery..
Well, William's ( my spouse) father, William David Wilton passed away in Sept.
2004(??) memory. He is listed on the SSDI in USA . He died in Tucson, Az.
Elizabeth, ( wife) still living now in Pueblo, Co. where several other of
her ch. live. Patrick, youngest lives with her , he never mar..
She had a test for Alzimer's but we haven't been told results yet.
William's dau., Adrienne Wilton mar. to Kevin L. Collings in Wichita, Ks in
Dec. 1999.
They have a son, Elliot, b 19 Nov. 2006 and they live in Wichita, Ks. Adrienne
b. June and is now 28 yr.s (?).
Will also has a son, William D. Wilton and he is I think 31 now and still unmar.
He also
inherited the A D D as it has been passed down from Grandfa. Thomas Wilton, as
near as we been able to find out, as most all of William David's 8 ch, 6 son's
and 2 girls did in some degree.,
William and I are going to his Aunt Dorothy's and take pictures of a number of
old ones she has of the family back. We can scan them and send to who ever would
like copies. We have one of Wiliam Wilton b 1826/5 and also of the 2nd wife
Mary. and 0ther's.
We also may have got this newer E mail since last contact.

Hi Nigel,
My wife has a photo of her great-grandmother Mary (Coad) Niles and on the
back is written:
A wonderful grandmother, Mary Catherine Coad Niles daughter of Joseph and
Margaret Clark Coad and granddaughter of John & Mary Coad who came to Maine
from England in the 1820s.
There is a book called Vital Records of Eastport, Maine from the Eastport
Sentinel which lists a John Coad born about 1795 in Cornwall County England
who married a Mary A. McDonald, December 06, 1825 at Eastport, Maine.
Then I learned from Joe Flood about about a John Coad arriving at Eastport,
Maine March 6, 1825 on the Henrietta. John Coad and family then show up in
the 1830 Eastport, Maine Census at Eastport.
I will be going to the Maine State Library and the Maine State Archives in
January to get more information and specific source details.
Sorry, I don't recognize any of the photos, their could be a chance that the
photo from New Hampshire could be of John Coad Jr. or a relative who lived
in Nashua, New Hampshire from about 1880 until his death in 1913.
Regards,
Andrew

Colorado for a reunion of some kind in Genealogy.

Hi Andrew and Darla
My name is Nigel Coad and I am descended from Joseph Coad Blacksmith b
Polperro/Talland 1795
If you are right then John Coad would have been his twin brother
Can I ask what evidence you have to track back to this particular John Coad?
I have never been able to find any death or marriage for him so he has
always been a mystery
He could be the John Coad age 29 emigrated on 'Henrietta' 1825
There are certainly a lot of Blacksmiths in this family and the naming of
his son Joseph would be supportive of a link
Do you have any census or other data to definitely link him back to John
Coad Talland 1795?'
The other thing that might help to link them is another stray Thomas Couch
Coad b 1825 Looe son of Joseph who probably emigrated. Any sign of him
living with your family in the censuses?
One other thing... You dont happen to recognise any of the enclosed unnamed
photos in our family album? They are from the states but we cant work out
who they are!
With Best Wishes
Nigel Coad
Warwickshire, England

Hi,
Here is some information on Joseph Coad the son of John Coad of Talland,
Cornwall, England.
Joseph Coad the son of John Coad of Talland, Cornwall, England was born
August 26, 1826 at Eastport, Maine. He married Margaret J. Clark of Steuben,
Maine on February 15, 1854 at Eastport, Maine. In 1860 his occupation was a
blacksmith. They moved to Rockland, Maine sometime in 1861.
He served in the Civil War enlisting first in August 28 1861 as a private in
the 6th Maine Infantry Regiment, Company K. He was listed as sick at
Washington D.C and received a disability discharge on December 23, 1861.
Then he enlisted again being mustered in August 10, 1863 as part of the 3rd
Maine Infantry Regiment Company F later transferring to the 17th Maine Red
Diamond Regiment Company B.
In his enlistment record he is described as being 5'9" having a dark
complexation with blue eyes and dark hair.
On May 26, 1864 he was admitted to the hospital after suffering a gunshot
wound of the right thigh at the Battle of the Wilderness. A conoidal ball
entered the inner surface of the lower third right thigh from backwards. It
was thought at the time to be a flesh wound of but little importance.
Indeed, the surgeon who diagnosed the case, considered a scalp wound on
right side of head to have been the more serious injury, and had entered it
as such upon the bed-card of the patient. Soon after admission, a profuse
diarrhea set in. This rapidly reduced him, and proved to be a dangerous
complication.
He died July 18, 1864 at Carver Hospital, Washington D.C. and is buried at
Arlington National Cemetery Site 5924.
After the death of her husband Margaret (Clark) Coad appears in the 1870
Palermo, Maine Census with three of her children, Mary, Julia, and Joseph.
She is listed as being a servant for an older man named Hiram Supine.
They had the following children:
Joseph S. Coad: He was born February 1852 according to the 1900 Rockland,
Maine Census which doesn't correspond with his parents marriage. His grave
stone gives his date of birth as 1852. In the 1870 Census he is listed as
being 8 years old making his date of birth 1862. He died between 1920-1926,
buried at Achorn Cemetery, Rockland, Maine but there is no date of death on
his stone. Listed in the 1900 Rockland, Maine Census as having eight
children all living with three at home, Alice age 13, Joseph age 10 and Ada
age 9. He did a variety of odd jobs, making iron gates and shoveling coal.
He was widowed before 1910. His children went to live with their
half-brother in Attleboro, Massachusetts.
Mary Catherine Coad: Born February 12, 1855, married December 12, 1877 at
Rockland, Maine Albion S. Niles. She died September 28, 1926 at Rockland,
Maine and is buried at Seaview Cemetery, Rockland, Maine. She had ten
children with four surviving her at the time of her death. Her sister Ella
was her only surviving sibling at the time of her death. Many of her
descendants still live in the Rockland, Maine area.
Ella Coad: born about 1857 died after 1926. In the 1880 Killingly,
Connecticut Census she is listed with her husband Albert Owens and her one
year old daughter Betsy. Both her and her husband were cotton mill workers.
In her sister's obituary she is listed as Mrs. Ella Owens of East Killingly,
Connecticut .
Julia E. Coad: born about 1858. Was 12 years old in the 1870 Census. Died
between 1870-1926.

Also - I think Susan Marshall is the daughter of William Marshall and Jane Penno, who married 1805 in Bodmin and had a large family there. Susan was actually christened 1825 in St Wenn. The family moved to Plymouth St Andrew somewhere between 1827 and 1841 - I think the 1841 census says William was a farrier.
