Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi Frank
When that contact went dead, I managed to locate Matthew Sears' supervisor
who gave me the bad news that Matthew was off doing something else, that he
would get back to this eventually but even then it would be very slow, that
their project was aimed at gross migration rather than family history, and
wrote, "For this reason, involvement in our project as a volunteer sample
donor is not a particularly quick way of obtaining DNA typing results for
your own family genealogy - although we will provide this information once
typing is completed. If you would like to obtain typing results more quickly
then the genealogical
testing company...I usually recommend is familyTreeDNA."
I passed this on to the proposed participants for whom I still had records
after the demise of my hard disk, saying that as we had a December discount
offer that might be the wisest course to follow. Three agreed and have now
purchased and returned kits for 37 marker tests to familytreeDNA - see our
website below which shows you the costs etc. We are expecting the results
from these first COAD samples before the end of March.
A couple of other folks with similar names have also jumped onto our
project, with very rare DNA for England.
In the long term, for those who want to wait and get a freebie, I'm keeping
the London Uni option open - but Im guessing it could be a couple of years.
If you or and other COAD would like to join now you are extremely welcome -
every person adds to our knowledge, particularly distant cousins! For the
people who are female-line descendants, if you have a male Coad relative who
can be coaxed on board that would be wonderful.
Cheers, Joe Flood

Hi Coad list, I'm Frank Coad. I have been following the DNA thing, but what I have not found is, who/how the DNA will be compiled and how much that will cost. Did I miss something in the ether? What ever happened to Mathew Sears and the London study?
No much as we'd love to have you on board Phil, Y-DNA is only passed on the
Y-Chromosome from father to son so you can only check out your direct
paternal line.
Apparently 75% of Afro-Americans are showing European Y-DNA - though as one
guy said, it doesnt help him knowing that, given how black he is.
Theres also mitochondrial DNA which you can use for your direct maternal
line. It's not as popular as Y-DNA because its harder to use for genealogy
We're expecting results towards the end of February so hopefully we'll have
something important to report at that time.

Hi Phil,
It sure would show something. You might find you are related to Robert H.
Coad, who also has North Hill COAD connections, and/or related to other
COADs who are taking part in the study. The more Coad-Coade-Code-Coode-Coady
et. al. DNA we put through the study, the better we will be able to answer
these questions.
I hope you join in.

Hi Russ,
Dr. Joe, set up the Coad DNA Testing Study, and only he can answer some of
your questions, so I have posted this reply to the Coad-List.
Well Russ, here is what I do know.
The company, FamilyTree DNA who is doing the DNA testing, was one of the
pioneers in Genealogy DNA testing and are based out of Houston, Texas. Here
is a link to their web site.
http://www.familytreedna.com/choosing_best.html
My personal test results are not due back for five-six weeks from today. I
expect the results back about end of February.
In terms of pricing here is the Retail Price List:
Y-DNA 12 marker test (really insufficient) is $149.00
Y-DNA 37 marker test (recommended) $259.00
However, I think Dr. Joe has arranged some sort of group discount, because I
paid only $189.00 + $2.00 shipping for my Y-DNA 37 marker test.
Hope this helps.

Edwin, my name is Russell Coad and I am aware of the DNA project. I am
writing you to ask you as to your impressions of the project and its
reliability. What labs are actually doing the tests and how reliable are
they and of course the costs. Were the results useful in determining
genealogical results?

Hi all,
Well, to start the New Year off here at the Coad-List I sent in my DNA
sample for testing today.
In case you didn't get the message, Dr. Joe Flood has started the Coad-DNA
Genealogical Study Project. This project is testing direct male descendents
with the surname Coad. This testing will tell us if our Coad clans are
related.
There are several others who have been or are in the process of being
tested, Nigel Coad of Looe, Cornwall (my direct 6th cousin), Bob Coad of
Nevada, representing the North Hill clan, and several others.
Dr. Joe is recommending the minimum of a 37 marker test. Joe has all the
particulars and you can direct email him for further info.
joeflood(a)bigpond.com
I hope those of you male descendents of Coad, Coode, Coade Code, Coody, etc.
will join us this year (2007) in getting tested and helping this Coad DNA
Study to finally answer the question "Are we related?"
Ideas and discussion is welcome.

Well I have sent in my samples and now I just wait.
I do not have any current information on living descendents of a John 1788
brother of Robert 1749 in fact Robert's father Robert 1701 (Jane ?) is as
far back as I have information.
So if anyone can give me information on Johns decendents, siblings or
parents I would be grateful.
Good hunting

Joe sorry I did not get back sooner but if you still have aone of the
certificates I would like on.
Merry Christmas and to all a good night.

Cheers and Merry Christmas
