Dear Trevor,
Thank you. My maiden name is COAD. But my father always thought his
grandfather was from Ireland, although I've not been able to track them back past
Pilot Knob, MO. I think my great-grandfather married in Pennsylvania; and I've
no idea when he came to this country, or where he landed, from where.... I do
know he was in our Civil War, around 1863.
The "story" goes that he was a stow-away on a ship at about the age of 14.
I'm baffled. I don't have my records immediately available, but I believe his
name was Michael, or Michael Martin.
Any ideas of "where to look" would be greatly appreciated. (He never appears
on any of our census reports!)
Margaret
Gday all,
Can anyone help me place Grace Claridge from this census in 1861.
1861 census 1524/folio34 St Germans, Eliot Arms Inn
Thomas CLARIDGE Head Marr 49 farmer & innkeeper Willerbor Warwickshire
Grace CLARIDGE Wife Marr 59 Innkeepers wife St Ive
Grace COAD Niece Unmarr 28 Innkeepers niece St Ive
Ann COAD Niece Unmarr 17 Innkeepers niece St Ive
In 1881
Thomas , Grace senior and Grace Junior were living in St Cleer
I believe Grace Coad and Ann Coad ( my great grandmother) to be the children of John Coad(b 1803 St. Ive) and Priscilla Rogers of Fillimore Farm St. Ive in this census and prior to that Lower Chariton Farm St. Ive.
As both Grace jr and Ann are listed as Nieces I am presuming that Grace Claridge is a Coad but not sure of the relationship to John Coad as I dont have a Grace as a sister to my John Coad..
Any help will be much apreciated.
Regards
Trevor Whitlock

I may be missing something here; but, I don't see any city, state, county or
country. Some of the "Coad" names are family names for me; but w/o the other
info,.....
Please fill in the blanks. Thanks. Margaret (Coad)
