Dear Coad Listers:
With respect to marriage between cousins, my wife's ancestry includes amongst others, a marriage between first cousins once removed. This creates a very interesting complication in an Ahnentafel Chart.

Dear Trevor,
I've been following your quest for your COAD family data in the COAD list
and the CORNWALL-St IVE list.
A couple of points:-
Re marriage of first cousins - Yes definitely possible - my own tree has
several fully documented instances.
Re accepting the place of birth from a death record ( if that is where the
Ballarat as place of birth came from) - you must take it with a grain of
salt as the info is given by a relative or friend who may have only a vague
idea of this sort of detail.
Re the parents of your John COAD who married Priscilla ROGERS - have you
found any clues yet? Nigel Coad has suggested a link to Richard COAD
(1778-1856) where John is listed a nephew (I think more likely a great
nephew) in 1851 census. If this is the case then we are connected as Richard
is the son of my 5G uncle.
I thought I'd put this much on-list but if you want to contact me off-list
please do.
Regards
Alison
Dear Cousins,

Thanks Nigel,
This information adds weight to my theory that the John
Coad that died in australia (1887 ) was indeed the son of John and
Priscilla.
If so then his son George married his Aunts daughter which would be a tad
strange.
However Georges discharge papers from the Australian Army in 1917 listed Ann
Whitlock nee Coad as next of kin so could be possible.
I havent checked to see if any of Georges children from his 1st marraige
were alive in 1917 but i have a feeling they all died young.
Thanks for all the information.
Regards
Trevor Whitlock

Hi Carol,
I do have an Ancestry.com subscription to Will & Taxes. However, please feel
free to jump in and do some lookups for folks.
I don't as a matter of course check those records. Cousins, Nigel Coad,
Keith Abel, Philip Duke and I are still stuck at about 1675 with our
Nicholas & Grace COAD.

Trevor,
Our Coads were indeed from St Ive, in Cornwall, and so we think there must
be some kind of link somewhere between our respective families.
The following three British census results follow George Coad, born 1848 in
Linkinhorne, Cornwall, and his family from 1871 until 1891. In case these
results are significant to your particular research we've pasted them below.

Hi Trevor,
I was looking for the birth of Ellen Coad in Cornwall which some of this
list helped me out with. At home I have what I thought was the birth cert of
'my' Ellen but it wasn't... To cut a long story short, I think the mother
and father named on this certificate were Priscilla Rogers and John Coad so
I may have a sibling for your Ann.
Will check tonight and contact you off-list tomorrow to confirm.
Cheers,
Sam

Daniel,
Welcome to the COAD-L.
The surname COAD is uniquely of Cornish descent. It appears in records as
COODE, COAD, COADE, CODE.
I will defer to others here in our group to give you the definition of our
surname.
There is a small village named "Coad's Green" in Liskard, Cornwall. However,
I don't believe this place is the consequence of our surname.
As for your William Coad COOK, more than likely the COAD name was given him
to honor and remember a grandparent.
