My Grandmother Ada Violet was born in Redruth. Her father was William Coad 1859-1941 and married Mary Jane Rowe 1858-1936.
They had 12 children 10 who survived. Are you familiar with those names?

This is well worth checking out for those with connections in the area
CORNWALL. St. Austell Parish, located in the south-central section of
Cornwall, was originally part of the Hundred of Powder (Pyder). It is
bordered on the east by Par, St. Blazey, and Luxulyan parishes, on the
north by Roche, and on the west by St. Stephen in Brannel, St. Mewan,
and St. Ewe parishes. Mevagissey is just to its south. It is about 14
miles east of Truro. There are transcriptions of parish marriage
registers from 1565 now on at this website, as well as some baptisms and
deaths, as well as maps, history, and photos of the parish.

Ed Coad,
I agree, many of the same names, Samuel Sr., Samuel Jr., Nicholas all are in
my family but with different dates and not necessarily in the same order.
You are correct we need to go back another generation or so and we will
probably find the link that gets most of the Cornwall Coads to a common
ancestor.
Thanks for your input.

Hey Cousin Tim,
Glad to know one of our Coads is keeping an eye out for our Coad line.
Figure the only way to get a breakthrough will be going to Avoca,
Pennsylvania to get some leads. I am still stumped here:
In the 1880 Census Joseph Coad (spelled in the 1880 Census as Code) was
24, a laborer, and was born in Maryland. His father (no name yet) was
said to be born in Ireland but his mother (no name yet) was born in
Maryland. Ann [Tinkelpaugh] was 20, his wife, and keeping house. Both
of her parents were born in Pennsylvania.
They had 3 children at that time:
Peter age 3
Ester age 2
John [this is John Francis] 1
All three children were born in Pennsylvania.
In all they had these children:
1. Peter born September 27, 1876
2. Henrietta born: February 13, 1878
3. John born: June 24, 1879
4. Mary born: November 1, 1880
5. Ellen born: May 17, 1882
6. Gertrude born November 1, 1885
7. George born November 4, 1887
8. Charlot born September 1, 1889
9. Agnes born October 26, 1891
10. Edward born January 16, 1893
11. Grace born September 8, 1899
All of these children were baptized at St. Mary's Church in Avoca,
Pennsylvania.
Anybody got some ideas?

Dear Phil and Dale,
My 2x Great-Grandfather was a William COAD, Jr. born in Bodmin 1813 and can
be found in the IGI under COODE. His father, William Coad, Sr. (1787) was
born in Bodmin as well. Then we get to William Sr. father Samuel Coad, Jr.
(25 Jan 1752) who was born in Polperro (Lansallos Parish), East Cornwall.
Samuel Coad, Jr. father, Samuel Coad, Sr. (1720) was born in St. Neot and
his father Nicholas was born abt. 1675, but we have not been able to find
Nicholas's birth or Christening record (if one exists).
Nigel and I believe there must be common connection between Coad families.
However, just off the top your North Hill, Samuel and William Coad don't
seem to connect, but if we could just go back a little further in time we
find might find a cousin connection.
No that is not me! But I do enjoy woodworking. I am an test engineer by
trade.

Can anyone connect with B.R. COAD? This is a very interesting item.
In 1922, a group of farmers stood around the square of a small Louisiana
town, talking about the boll-weevil threat to their cotton crop. Two men
joined the group and listened. One was Mr. Woolman, then a district farm
agent. The other was Dr. B. R. Coad, District Manager of Department of
Agriculture Entomology laboratory.
"If you could kill them long-billed insects, it'd save us," a farmer said.
"They're gonna ruin us for sure."
Mr. Woolman and Dr. Coad knew from experiments they had made that they had a
remedy for the boll-weevil scourge- calcium arsenate. The problem was how
to get the poison to the bug in the most effective way. Hand sprinkling
with a solution of molasses and arsenate was slow and too costly. "Why not
try the airplane and attach a hopper?" Dr. Coad suggested.
Mr. Woolman was enthusiastic. He believed that a hopper attached to a plane
would do the job. The idea worked. Using their own money and borrowing
more, the two men formed Huff-Daland Dusters, later to become the Delta Air
Service. Soon the pioneer crop-dusters had 18 planes- "largest unsubsidized
air fleet in the world those days," Mr. Woolman later said of it.
We now know this company as Delta Air Lines.

Dear Dale:
Sorry, your Coads are not in my family tree as it currently stands but I have no doubt you are a cousin.
Since you sent your message through the Coad-L list it went out to quite a number of Coad researchers and there may be someone, somewhere around the world that recognizes your family. The best of luck in that regard.
Yours truly

Dear M Keith Abel
My family John Herring Coad and Anne Coad (Rice) came from Cornwall
(Tavistock) with their four children (my great grandfather was one of them -
Richard Coad). John's H. Coad was born 1834, the son of Samuel Coad and
Charlotte Coad (Herring), Samuel b. 1810 the son of John Coad and Ann Coad
(Hender), John b. 1769 the son of Samuel Coad and Ann Coad (Bennett), Samuel
b. 1744 the son of Samuel Coad and Ruth Coad (Grandville). This Samuel was
born 1702, the son of William Coad and Margaret Coad (Daw). Unsure of date
beyond this.
Would love to know if you believe we are related.
You can respond through rootsweb or to me direct "princetondlm(a)aol.com"

Ed Coad,
Trip to England was very good. I did meet with Philip and we shared lots of
history, each of us went away with a task list. Thanks for asking. There
have been some interesting messages lately here at rootsweb. I have
responded to a couple. Always looking for more information on our family.
