Thank you Ed and Julia for your replies.
I have still been unable to locate Fred and Gwen. My hope was to locate their descendants. I know who Gwen's parents are and her ancestery but have very little about Gwen other than she was born around 1904 in Madison County, Illinois and married Fred Coad in the early 1920's. (I have a possible date of July 12, 1923 from a photo.) I do not know if they had any children. Hopefully with the 1930 census coming out this year I will be able to find them. I had hoped that maybe someone on the Coad message board or the mailing list would know of a Fred Coad that married a Gwen Jones. I appreciate your help and will continue to search. They are out there somewhere!

I have a 16 page document detailing the Mineral Point Coads which was sent
to me by a Mrs Josephine Nattkemper of California. It gives the family of
Thomas COAD and Ann TUCKER you list and also another brother Edward bapt St
Erme 5 Oct 1834.
She takes the Mineral Point COADS back to 3 brothers William and John who
married 2 sisters Thomasine DUMBLE and Temperance DUMBLE/ HAUGHTON at St
Neot. There is said to be a 3rd brother Thomas who married Ann TUCKER from
whom you are descended ( via William COAD and Elizabeth OATES), but no
evidence is offered to firmly connect Thomas to the other two. There are no
baptism places or dates so we dont know where they were born but the St Neot
marriage register entry for William, which I have seen says he is 'a Tanner
of St Stephen in Brannel' I cant find 3 such COAD brothers on the IGI
except in Crowan
For what it is worth there is a members submission Thomas Coad b abt 1797 of
Feock Mar Ann TRUCKER on the IGI The 3 brothers story may be fantasy or
not, who knows
If you do want to see this tree I can send you a copy

Nigel, here is what I have:
Thomas COAD b. 14 June 1778, St. Michael in Penkevil. M. Ann Tucker 29
May 1822 at Feock. I have nothing on Ann. She was iliterate, and there
were no parental witnesses to the wedding for either. There were four
children, William, March 1823, Thomas Edward 1820's, d. Fyan's Creek,
Victoria, Au. 1895.
Mary Ann 1829, d, Wisconsin
Elizabeth, B. 1834, October. 4 months after her father Thomas, died.
Thomas never emigrated. With just William and Thomas Edward, not room
for the three brothers theory.
I think there were Coads in Mineral Point several years before William
arrived, and maybe there is some relationship there.
Thomas's parents are listed as Peter COAD and Elizabeth. Since his
estate papers put his age at death, as 56 years old, and the above
Thomas was born June 1778, and the only Thomas born in the 5 year period
in Cornwall. 76,77,78,78 and 80.
I would appreciate anything new you might have. I have Josephine's info,
and can't make a connection with any of them.
Thank you for the offer, and if you feel there might be something there,
I would love to have it.
Nice name, don't you think?
Bob

Bob -
I would be happy to send you a copy of what I have. It is not on the
computer, so if you give me your snail mail address (send it to
bicoad(a)tellink.net) I will send it to you. Then you can see what this person
has and contact him. I would like to assume that he is still living.

Bob COAD -- Is this your family tree?
I have in my possession a family tree for a COAD family that does not tie
into mine. I have not researched it. Here is a brief outline of what it
contains. It does reference Mineral Point Wisconsin. My guess is that
William COAD's parents are Thomas COAD and Ann Tucker
William COAD b 21 Mar 1823 Cornwall County England d 21 Jun 1870 in Mineral
Point, Wisconsin. Married on 25 Jun 1846 in Truro Cornwall England to
Elizabeth OATES b 05 Jul 1824 Saint Erme Cornwall England d 18 Apr 1903
Mineral Point Wisconsin.
William and Elizabeth had 7 children
Nicholas Gay Oates COAD b 19 Nov 1851 Mineral Point wisconsin, d 29 Feb 1928
San Diego California. Married Mary Tilley ANSLEY one child William Ansley
COAD
Thomas Edward COAD b 11 Feb 1855 d 16 Dec 1927
William Tucker COAD b 25 Jul 1856 d 19 Dec 193? married Marian C. WHittlesey
on 08 Dec 1885 3 children Marian, Linda and Wilma
Elizabeth Ann COAD b 01 Oct 1858 married John R. Osborne
Harriett COAD b 14 Dec 1860 d 24 Dec 1935 married Henry IVEY ond daughter
Margaritte
John William COAD b 10 Mar 1863 married Luella May Paull 2 children William
John and Osmond
James A COAD b 02 Mar 1865 d 19 Jul 1921 married Myra one child did not
survive.
This family moved from Wisconsin to Iowa and settled in Hull (Patersonville
Iowa.) and Le Mars Iowa. I also show South Dakota, Austin Texas, Sioux City
Iowa, Minnesota, and Michigan.
Other names of people in the tree are RICHARDSON, JIRSA, WOODS, FRANKE,
HANCER, MATHERS, MCNALLY, HARPER, BIBLE, MUELLER, PETERSON, PERKINS,
OSBORNE, MERRY, GILMAN, ORWING, BRADY, and SPEILMAN.
This tree was sent to my father in 1996 by a William R. COAD living in
LeMars Iowa. In his cover letter he notes that he was told that there were
three COAD brothers who came from England about 1840. One settled in NY and
the other two went west and settled in Mineral Point Wisconsin. He notes
that the family "lost track of the other six siblings and their famillies."
He also notes that there were several other COAD families in Mineral Point
Wisconsin, that were not related during the late 1800 to 1900 time frame.
Hi Beth,
Thanks so much. this is and isn't my family. William only had one
Brother, Thomas Edward, who went to OZ. There, he died in 1895 at Fyan's
Creek.
William and T.E. had two sisters, Mary Ann and Elizabeth.
I am slowly putting the family together.
John Coad, who married Louella May Paull, was my grandfather and they
moved to Colorado in 1906.
Bob COAD
Dennis,
Those dates are pretty close. The exact date of the Des Moines 1856 Census
isn't shown on the document provided, but the three Coads break down as
follows:
.............. John Coad, 29 yrs (born c. 1827 in England) married,
carpenter - lived in Iowa for 11 years at time of census.
.............. Margaret A. Coad, 20 yrs (born c. 1836 in Kentucky) married -
lived in Iowa for 4 years at time of census. (note the initial 'A' for the
second Christian name, which matches your Margaret Ann Thompson)
.............. James Coad, 25 yrs (born c. 1831 in Penn.) single,
carpenter - lived in Iowa for 11 years at time of census.
Peter Thomas

To All:
Bob COAD asked another good question:
>Did Iowa throw a mid-decade census? I thought all census's here were
every 10 years on the 0 years.<
Answer:
State, cities and towns all over the country gathered census data, generally
for tax purposes.

This is not the Fred Coad that married a Gwendolyn Jones. Fred Coad b. 1893 was my mother's uncle, brother to my grandfather Don Herbert Coad. This Fred Coad married Fern Spaugh on 18 nov 1921 in Rosehill, Jasper Co., IL.
After Edna, Fred and Laura Lee Coad also had:
Edith b.3 apr 1901
Don Herbert b. 2 sep 1904
Pauline b. 28 jun 1908
The two children that died were named Alma b.1889 (lived 4 mos.) and Audria, died age 5, b. 1890
Fred b. 1862 did have 2 brothers that I know very little about other than their names -James and George (there were 12 siblings - two died in infancy) If you are interested in this line I also have Fred's parents, grandparents, his siblings, and a few of his siblings' spouses. Your Fred could be related to this family, Fred is a common name in this line.
As to the Jones line, there were Jones in Rosehill, that was my grmother's maiden name (m. to Don Herbert Coad). Her father John Abner Jones was b. in Bartholomew Co., IN and moved to Rosehill as a child(he had 14 sibs). But I have only tracked a few of them- no Gwen that I've found yet.
Robert COAD b 1701 family - John is married to Margaret and James is his
brother. John and James are the sons of John COAD b 1788 and Jane Jeffrey.

Beth, et. al.
I just looked up Mineral Point, WI (Wisconsin) on Expedia Maps. I have two
to select from, Mineral Point in Green County or Iowa County. Which one are
you folks referring to in terms of your COAD ancestors?

Subject: [COAD] COAD Genealogy
Good Morning -
Brian -- I don't know of any tie on either item that you mentioned in your
email - to the Bennett family or the Hughes family. I have not found a tie
to Wisconsin. However -- let me append an old email to this one, and my
response that I did yesterday. I have not yet heard from Linda but believe
we have a strong possibility of a match. I am hoping that Dennis Coad can
check his records and see if he has more information. Also maybe Keith Abel
can give some hints on finding birth records in Ontario Canada -- so here
goes.
This is a copy of the email from Linda Kleback dated 17-Aug-01
"I am working on the following family and would love to hear from other Coad
researchers:
Leo COAD, son of James COAD and Ellen ?, b. 10 May 1873 in Woodstock,
Ontario, Canada and d. 15 Jan 1943 in Tioga Center, Tioga, NY. He m. Olive
Elizabeth PRESTON, daughter of Samuel PRESTON and Mary Ann BLACK, b. 13 Oct
1872 in Parkers Landing, Armstrong, PA and d. 4 April 1955 in Tioga Center,
Tioga, NY. Known children, all born in Sistersville, Tyler, WV: Harry R.;
Mary E. m. Herbert SCHOONOVER, Leo Jr.; and Thelma Olive Elizabeth b. 15
May 1908 and d. 17 Mar 1989 m. Robert HEATH."
Here is my response from yesterday
Dear Linda:
I was cleaning out my emails when I came across the item you had sent to the
Coad website. This was in August 2001. At that time nothing in your message
rang a bell with me. When I read it today - I realized based on information
that I have received since then that there might be a chance that you tie
into the Robert COAD b 1701 family.
I was wondering if you had found any further information. My tie in is
sketchy - but I think accurate. This fall, a gentleman in Oregon posted a
note about a gravesite in Oregon and it was a relative of mine. It lists his
birthplace as Woodstock Ontario Canada - which was of course incorrect. This
person had lived in Woodstock but was born in England. When I reread your
note - the Woodstock clicked. However, Leo COAD was still not a family name
that I was familiar with. A few minutes of research at LDS - showed me that
Leo is a name in the family tree - but I had not seen it as I had a slightly
different first name for the Mother. I just added three more children to the
family tree. Leo has a brother James for whom I have no information. Another
brother, William Hooke COAD is the one that I have the gravesite picture of.
Thus the tie to Woodstock and Leo.
Anyway I have a family tree with over a thousand entries, so I will give you
a summary of what I have.
Robert COAD b 1701 married Jane
They had 2 children that I know of. Son Robert COAD b 1749 married Priscilla
Skibbow HOOKE. They had thirteen children.
Their second son, James Hooke COAD b 1776 married Elizabeth Foote. They had
8 children. Their first son John Foote COAD b 1811 married Susan Jane (also
found as Sarah Jane). They had eight children (this is where I think we
connect.)
John Foote COAD b 1836
William Hooke COAD b 1837
James COAD b 1839
Kate COAD b 1843
Leo COAD b 1845
Elizabeth COAD b 1846
Mary COAD b 1848
Arthur Richard COAD b 1849
I think that James is the one you are looking for. William Hooke COAD is the
one whose grave in Oregon indicates he was born in Woodstock Ontario. All
the persons listed above were born in England to the best of my knowledge.
I haven't done a lot of research on this branch. Your Leo Coad b 1873 would
be when James was 34 years of age - so that makes sense.
Let me know what you think -- or if you need more information.
