Hi All,
Here is another interesting post by Noel THOMAS, looking for his
grandmother, Phoebe COAD, birth record or in a UK census .
I have my own opinion as to a possible solution, but what do you other
Listers think? Can we help Noel?
Noel writes>
My grandmother is shown on her marriage cert. issued by Redruth Register
Office 4/1/1897 as, Phoebe COAD age 28 of Beacon, Camborne. Father Richard
COAD (Deceased)Farm Lab. She married my g/father, Thomas John THOMAS age 20
of Troon, Camborne.
The silly thing is I knew my g/mother and my aunts but never asked any
questions! Gran died in 1952. Her Cornish dialect took some understanding at
times!!
My problem is she does not appear on the GRO. She does not appear on any
census that I can find. I don't really know where she came from. G/father
was b. at Breage and his family move to Bolenowe and then Troon where they
lived in a cottage called Polgine House.
I can't get far with this if I can't identify my own grandmother!!
Any help will be much appreciated.
Regards,
Noel
To go along with Ed's posting on the spelling of our ancestor's names, I
had a copy of my great grandparent's marriage certificate for 14 years,
but could never bring up his birth on the IGI. One day, I tried COOD
instead of COAD, and there it was. The name is correct on the cert.
Since I always search the IGI with the "exact spelling button" off, I
was guilty of assuming all possible spellings would automatically
appear. They don't.
Happy searching,
Bob

Russell,
I know of no group (except the Welsh) that was particularly objective to the law of registering births with the County Record Office, and was required of all births. Most births in those days were at home, especially for the common folk. There were severe penalties for not registering a birth and almost all complied, as was meant to be.
I will need a little more info if you have it.
Do you know your, John COAD parents names? Possible County of birth?
Do you have an obit for him? As to the date, 1875 was this the assumed year him emigrated? Do you know his age at this time or can you make a educated guess?
Did he emigrate with his parents? Names of sibling, if know?
Basically, I need to know what you know or don't know.

Ed, I have been looking for a long time for information on the John Coad family, who came from Red Ruth England about 1875 and who settled in West Fairlee, Vermont. I have been able to track them from West Fairlee to Seattle, but I have not been able to find anything about them in the English records. I even hired an Genealogist in England to look for records. John Coad was a miner all his life. He probably worked the mines in Red Ruth and when he moved to West Fairlee Vermont, he worked the copper mines. Do miners as a group have more unrecorded home births?
Hi Nigel,
Thank you for the list. The last one in this list was My Great great
grandfather's estate. I have copies of the documents, and might help
with the date of Alexander Huddy's appearance. On 5 march 1841, he
submitted his affidavit for co-administration de bonis. It was granted
12 Mar. 1841. Ann COADE was illiterate but apparently no-one knew. This
is part of the reason the estate lay dormant for 7 years. her fourth
child was born in October 1834, four months after the death of her
husband. The doctor certified her a lunatic at some point, for the grant
to Mr. Huddy states the term during the lunacy of Ann and the minority
of her son William, (my great grandfather.) Today, her diagnosis
probably would have been post-partum depression.
Oh, thank heaven for the 24/7 Internet.
Beth Coad found another relative via the "net".
How about you other Listers? Has anyone else found kin via the net? How
many? Have a good story?
Let's see some postings on this topic.
Cheers,
Ed

Hi everyone --
Just got a response from a Carl Campbell who is descended from Ellen COAD
and Joseph POUNDS. I know that I am missing a lot in this branch starting in
the early 1900's with Harry POUNDS who is Carl's Father. I hope that he can
provide us with some information. I am trying to find out where he lives - I
welcomed him to the family and sent him information on the POUNDS side
starting with Joseph POUNDS in 1750. It is a lot less information for him to
digest - and offered him more Coad information if he wants it.
Does anyone know Carl Campbell?
The following is his email:

Dear Listers,
A word of caution is in order here. Identity thieves are everywhere on the
net. We must be careful about posting birth dates or other detailed personal
info on the "living".
In our excitement we may forget ourselves and get carried away.
Cyndi's List has a variety of cautions about maintaining the privacy of the

Hi Shawn -
Do these match any names or dates that might match your family history? If
yes, then I have 21 pages of typed family genealogy for you with 3 pages of

Thanks Dennis for that extra information - it's great!
Just a couple of queries - in Florence Gladys Richardson's Funeral info
it showed one of her grandchildren as Rebecca Watchel, so presumably
she was married to a Mr Watchel before 1974 and her marriage to
Benjamin Franklin Blair III was her second one.
The other is just a re-sort on your program - it shows Matthew Alan
Richardson and Daniel Ward Richardson in reverse order to ages.
