Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi COAD families:
This does not work - I had this set up and received an email designating a
COAD genealogy connection and I was familiar with the person sending the
message. The message went right through this and sent out messages to
everyone in my address book. If you received a message from me, I apologize.
I have finally cleaned up the virus and should be all set again.
Wishing everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR
Beth

With respect to virus problems:
Dear Everyone:
Today I received a virus from Beth Coad's machine. The virus is W32.Badtrans.B@MM. It came attached to an e-mail message from Beth Coad's machine. The attached file was called Readme.MP3.Scr (29.0 KB).
The message from Beth's machine had as a subject "Re: New e-mail address" and the message was blank.
DO NOT OPEN THIS FILE.
Fortunately the normal operation of my virus program (McAfee Active Shield) caught the problem and I was able to erase it before it did any damage. However I am probably too late in warning others. I have not been into my e-mail for several days and Beth's machine sent the message out on Christmas Day to all recipients of Coad L.
My first caution came, because no-one sends out advice of a change of address as an attachment. As always I copy attachments to a diskette in A: drive before opening, which gives my virus program a chance to do its thing.
I hope I have able to save some of you at least.

Establish security zones for Web surfing safety
Have you ever downloaded information from a site you weren't sure
was entirely secure? If you've ever opened a Web page and downloaded
a program or file that ended up damaging your computer, you know
that Web security is a hard lesson to learn. Fortunately, there's
a way to set up Internet Explorer to divide the Web sites you visit
into zones with different levels of security. This ensures that
you will be accessing only safe Web pages and downloading only
secure data from Web sites you trust.
In Internet Explorer, choose Tools | Internet Options and in the
Internet Options dialog box, select the Security tab. Your Web
sites can be divided into four categories (Internet, Local Intranet,
Trusted Sites and Restricted Sites) and each of these zones has
a different security level. Select each icon and then read about
its security restrictions. Then, for both the Trusted Sites and
Restricted Sites zones, click the Sites button, and type the Web
sites you want added to each zone.
You can tell which zone the current Web page is in by looking at
the right side of the Internet Explorer status bar. Whenever you
attempt to open or download content from the Web, Internet Explorer
checks the security settings for that Web site's zone.
To all Listers:
It has come to my attention that US Social Security Administration has
increased the price of obtaining a copy of a deceased person original SS
application from $7.00 to $27.00 per record.

Keith, You gave me one ancestor who delivered at the age of 45. I have
no doubt she did, but she was the exception rather than the rule. I also
had a grandfather who lived to 99, and another who made it to 89. As you
can see, by my previous post, these are exceptions rather than the rule,
in my family.
BTW, I will be a septuagenerian in April. But thank you for your answer.
Merry Christmas

Hi Beth.
My father died at age 45.
His grandfather at 47
His great grandfather at 54.
I still doubt many women in the 1700;s were giving birth after age 40.
Thanks for the reply.

Dear Bob --
One of my COAD ancestors, female, born in 1753 -- bore 13 children and died
at the age of 85. In fact, a majority of my COAD ancestors, male and female
lived very long lives. I also was of the assumption that the majority died
in their fifties. But I have been very suprised to see that a lot were in
their 70's or 80's before they died.

Hi Ed
Thank you for the research. Have been studying it, and the sixth child
you have attributed to Peter COAD and Elizabeth KEMPE, must be a
posting by some-one. In those days, women rarely lived past 50 and
Eleanor would have been born when Elizabeth was 44 years of age and had
already given birth to 5 children.

Having established that Peter Thomas's wife Jenny COAD and I are cousins, I am the
Wisconsin one who is searching for COAD and other family name units in the US and
Canada.
I dropped the James Henry COAD US immigration info I had found so far on Peter to
see if he had any prior answers, but rather than responding to my set of questions
he did what I was planning to do next - post it to COAD-L(a)rootsweb.com - thus
beating me to the punch.
Still it's the answers we are all interested in!

Dear Coad Family Members
What an exciting experience to find Ed's fabulous tree on World Tree.
I knew my Aunt's name, but nothing more (Emily Coad Elias) until I found the
Coad Family site.
Thank you for the info I have received and a new found cousin to boot, Ed.
Your site has valuable information and even though most of my interests are
of the "in-law" nature, I enjoy reading your family questions and tips on
genealogy.
I've enjoyed being a part and will certainly keep the Coad list in mind for
help in 2002.
Happy Holidays

Do any of the Coad clans out there have a record of a James Henry COAD
leaving Southampton on the US steamship 'St. Paul' (has an interesting ship
history - but that's another story!), arriving in New York at Ellis Island
on March 16, 1896 at the age of 22 years?

Sherry,
You are off to a good start with your family tree. You have done the right
thing by first writing down all you know about the family. Your details are
very good in your Post.
Your next step should be to contact COAD family members and others who may
have information and begin a dialog with them about your family history.
They may think in the beginning they can be of little help, but with a
little prodding even minor details will be of great use later on. Find out
what they know about each person, i.e. occupation, hobbies, personality,
etc. and any family lore or stories past down.
Be ready to take copious notes and if possible record conversations (with
permission) via audio or video.
General genealogy forms are available for download via the net to help you
keep track of correspondence, logging of research notes, etc.
It would be nice to get copies of family photos or individuals, also copies
of documents such as birth, marriage, death, baptism, deeds, letters, other
important papers, etc.
Next would be to document your way back to England or Ireland, most probably
Cornwall.
This step will require you to write letters and research at your local
"Church of Christ and Ladder Day Saints" or as it is most commonly know LDS.
The LDS has local Family History Centers around the world. The LDS has the
single largest repository of records in the world. One need not be a member
of the church to use these facilities, they are open to anyone, and the
church will not endeavor to recruit you to join.
Be sure to visit our web site for links to other places of research.

If you have any questions about the above or need more specific help, just
ask. Either myself or one of our knowledgeable members will be glad to help.

Happy Holidays To All,
I'm hope you are all enjoying the holiday season.
Over the past 60 days we have increased our lot by three.
I would like to say Welcome to our new members.
First, we have Mr. Martyn J. DIBBEN from Wisconsin. Martyn has yet to post,
but may have a connection with you folks with Wisconsin COAD families.
Second, is my nearly found cousin Ms. Shawn Elias PRESNER. She is related to
my VAUGHN side of the COAD family, i.e. my grandfathers wife, Jane Owen(s)
VAUGHAN.
Third, Sherry Lynn COAD of Illinois. Below is a copy of Sherry's COAD family
post. Can anyone make a connection?
Sherry writes:
I am researching the COAD family. My name is Sherry Lynn Coad I am the
daughter of Ralph Edward COAD. Ralph is the son of Joseph Wesley COAD b.
Abt. 1900 and d. Abt. 1957 and Cecil Faye Chandler.
Children of Joseph Wesely COAD and Cecil Faye Chandler:
William Arthur b. April 10, 1927 d. May 04, 1934
Ralph Edward b. November 19, 1928,
Betty Lou b. May 26, 1930 d. August 26, 1973,
Wilma Jean b. June 22, 1932,
Ruth Lafern b. July 27, 1933 d. December 1933 and
Margaret b. April 28, 1935 d. March 8, 1936.
Joseph is the son of William COAD. William COAD was married twice. His
first marriage he had two children, they are Clifford and Clarence.
Clarence COAD died in WWII in England and is buried in the National Cemetery
in England. Clifford, I believe is living somewhere in Indiana. William's
second marriage he had four children, they are Charles COAD lived in
Champaign, Illinois until his death in the late 1900's, Dorothy COAD Fryer
who has a son named Noble, Ethie COAD Fryburger who lived in Long Beach,
California and had three children.
If anyone has any information on any of the above COAD family members I
would be very interested. I've just started my family tree, and don't have
a lot of sources still living on the COAD side.
Happy Holidays

Bob,
It was late last night and I gave the IGI only a cursory search. After a
further search of LDS IGI records, more is revealed. I believe the marriage
date submitted by a church member may be accurate (SEE BELOW). There is only
on way to see for yourself and that is to order the film(s) from your local
LDS Family History Center. After all, the IGI is just an index and one
always finds more info by examining the microfilmed original records.
It would appear that Peter COAD b. abt. 1747 and wife, Elizabeth KEMPE had
six children christened at St. Michael's Penkivel Parish, as listed below.
See: LDS IGI Batch # C024972.
If this family followed traditional naming patterns the first boy would be
name after the paternal grandfather and the second girl after the paternal
grandmother, which would have Peter COAD's parent as JOHN and JANE and at
the end of this message is my find for Peter's parents.
Parents: Peter COAD and Elizabeth (KEMPE).
1. Mary COAD - International Genealogical Index
Gender: F Christening: 27 Dec 1767 St. Michael Penkivel, Cornwall, England
2. John COAD - International Genealogical Index
Gender: M Christening: 17 Nov 1771 St. Michael Penkivel, Cornwall, England
3. Jane COAD - International Genealogical Index
Gender: F Christening: 11 Jul 1773 St. Michael Penkivel, Cornwall, England
4. Peter COAD - International Genealogical Index
Gender: M Christening: Jan 1775 St. Michael Penkivel, Cornwall, England
5. Thomas COAD - International Genealogical Index
Gender: M Christening: 14 Jun 1778 St. Michael Penkivel, Cornwall, England
6. Eleanor COAD - International Genealogical Index
Gender: F Christening: 9 Oct 1791 St. Michael Penkivel, Cornwall, England
I also found their marriage you referred to, submitted by a LDS church
member.
Peter COAD
Marriage(s): Spouse: Elizabeth KEMPE
Marriage: 5 Mar 1767 St. Michael, Penkevel, Cornwall, England

Peter COAD
Christening: 5 Nov 1744 Saint Stephen In Brannel, Cornwall, England

The parish of Saint Stephen In Brannel is about 6-10 miles north of St.
Michael's of Penkivel and is a good possibility.

Thanks Ed, my feelings also. The 1790 date just doesn't match the age
(56) at death in 1834.
I believe Peter Coad b. 1747, m. Elisabeth KEMPE 1767, really fill the
bill. Unfortunately, the listing only gives spouse on the Christening,
and not parents.
I will keep searching, maybe someday.
Merry Christmas to All.
