Hi List
I received this from the Glamorgan, Wales List.
Does it ring a bell with anyone? since Vaughn (Vaughan) was Jane Coad's
maiden name?

Hello Beth
How fortunate for me to have found the Coad Connection.
I have been doing this about 2 years, so I can really use the
help from all of you guys. Please let me know if there is anything I can do
for you. Our family was from Scranton, PA. That is where Emily Coad met
Joshua Elias (my uncle). I know Aunt Emily was born in Brooklyn area, is
your family from NYC?
Just to clear the air, I am female. My name suggests a "boy" but I'm
definitely a girl.
Regards,
Shawn

Hi Shawn -
I am in a different branch than Ed. We have traced it back to a Robert Coad
b 1701 Ermington, Devon England. Ed, I and others, all believe that if we go
further back the families should merge somewhere. Many of my relatives, as
well as I, have been unable to go back further than Robert.
Ed, Nigel and Keith are all cousins and have been at this a lot longer than
I. They are a great team that is willing to share and dispense ideas and
assistance.

Ed, a friend recently sent me a method of obstructing a virus's path
through your address book. You go in and enter (as an address) !000. for
some reason this takes number one position in the book and not being a
proper address will not allow the virus to proceed.
Bob
Ed - You never know when the information supplied might fit in with someone
else's tree - and maybe we can tie a couple of the Coad branches together.

Dear Ed and Shawn:
Congratulations on locating each other. It is always exciting to locate a
new member of one's family. I know that I am enjoying new relationships with
new relatives, however distant the relationship and however far away they
live.
Beth
Hi ED
How nice to have a new cousin! As I mentioned, I am Shawn Elias my father
was John (Josh's brother) I knew Aunt Emily and her one sister Elizabeth but
not the rest of your side. I have some Elias info that follows. I also
heard of the eminent preacher, but I cannot get our family back quite that
far. You seem to be very well-versed in genealogy, I saw your nice web

Dear Shawn,
The Elias connection you saw on Rootsweb.com is mine. Your Uncle Josh was my
Uncle Josh. Emily J. COAD was my fathers sister. You would be my cousin by
marriage.
I have a great deal of info on the eminent preacher, Rev. John Elias of
Anglesey, Wales. However, I have not been able to certify a connection. My
info is sparse on your family line.
Perhaps by sharing info we can make the connection.
So, as not to bore the COAD-List group, future e-mail should be sent to my
personal e-mail address: ecoad(a)CFL.RR.COM

Hi List
I noticed an entry for Rev John Elias, Angelsey, Wales.
My family, Elias, is also from Wales. I am trying to see if there is a
connection between Rev John Elias b: 1775 and my ggf Rev John Elias b:
Wales, Newcastle Emlyn, Car, 1838. My gf was Joshua Elias Sr. who had 2
sons, Joshua Jr married Emily J. Coad and my father, John W. Elias.
Please let me know of any interest. Thank you,
Shawn Elias Presner

Keith, et al,
I was a little too hasty in issuing an alert. Careful study of the message
source would have revealed the Coad-L Admin mail box as the intermediary for
the message.
One of the ways I combat sending out a virus is by having Outlook Express
not send messages immediately, but to place them in the "Out Box" first
before sending them.
This does require one to click the "Send" button twice, once to put the
message in the Out Box and a second time to actually Send the message.
In this way if the virus tries to send say 30 messages, and I was sending
only one or two, these message would end up in the "Out Box" and the number
of message in the "Out Box" are displayed. However, nothing is fool proof (I
think I qualify for that remark), one must still look at the number of
messages waiting to be sent before clicking on the send button for the
second time.
Ed
Dear Ed:
No need to feel embarrassed. An infected attachment can come from anyone at
any time and the distributor will be a good deal more embarrassed than you.
You have no control over what nonsensical attachments any of the
correspondents choose to open.
But think of it. A new Coad-L message originates from your web page, not
the address book of the sender. Most viruses send themselves out to the
names in the address book. It would take a very special set of
circumstances for a virus to go out from the web page. I won't say it can't
happen because Galloping Murphy's Law controls these things but it seems
highly unlikely to me.
I also learned something new. I prefer to write messages in HTML so that
the spell-checker works and the font is big and bold enough for my old eyes
to read. Then just before sending, I switch the message to Plain Text. But
it appears that your web page switches HTML to Plain Text before sending the
copies on. How very considerate of it.
It still leaves the question, "Where did this virus originate?" Does
anyone have an unread message from the Coad-L Administrator in his inbox?
Since you (Ed) are the only Coad - L Administrator, who have you sent
messages to under that name, and it has to be quite recent because this is a
recent variant on an old virus. That person is very likely to be the victim
of the virus from some source quite apart from Coad genealogy.

Good News for Everyone,
Virus Alert to group is a none issue.
I reading Keith Abel's message that he did not receive the infected e-mail,
I rechecked the message and sure enough he was correct, the infected message
was sent to the COAD-List-Administrator mail box, so only I and not the
general COAD-List received the message.
If only I had not panicked, and had more carefully examined the message, I
would have seen this.
Sorry, for the false alarm.
Sincerely embarrassed,
Ed Coad

Dear Group,
I just received a e-mail from Peter Thomas of Western Australia this message
has an attachment that contains a virus/worm (worm_badtrans.B). It appears
this message came though the COAD-List.
DO NOT open the attachment.
The subject was just a plain "Re:"
with no other subject. The attachment looks like an MP3 audio file and its
file name is "Me_nude.MP3", but could appear as something else in your
message.
If you have already opened the attachment, you have been infected. This is
why opening attachments is so dangerous.
Your best bet now is to go to a Anti Virus internet site for instructions on
how to rid your self of this nasty worm.
PC-cillin AntiVirus.comhttp://www.antivirus.com/pc-cillin/vinfo/
You can also have them scan your computer for virus over the net.

DO NOT send anyone an e-mail until you are sure you have cleansed your
computer.

Well, I hope all of our America cousins had a fine Thanksgiving.
This is always a special Holiday at this Coad house. A day when I get to see
all my children at the same time. We have an early dinner, so they can have
a second feast at the in-laws.
And now for the left-overs... turkey salad, turkey sandwiches, turkey
casserole.
I'm sure our International members have a Feast Day. However, I'm not
familiar with your respective customs.
Regards,
Ed Coad
Dear Phillip
I was intrigued to see a photo submitted by you on the Coad site, as the
gt-grandson of May (nee Coad) & John Hallam.
As my name is Hallam I would be interested to hear of your Hallam ancestry
and whether its origins go back to Leicestershire in England.

Keith et al,
I would suspect the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) are only
interested in the Colonial "rebels" and not those who were "Loyalist" i.e.
"Tories".

I too am curious if there is a link between these HALLAM families.
Ed
I don't know never ask for that kind of information? I guess all you can do
is ask!

Dear Dennis:
My wife has quite a few ancestors and cousins who fought in the American
Revolution but they were all on the Loyalist side. (or do I have to
translate that to "Tory") Do you think the DAR would be as keen to look up
her ancestors?
Up till now I thought the best source for my wife's family in the Revolution
was the card index in the National Archives in Ottawa, necessitating going
there. But the records are remarkably detailed and complete, considering
the quality of record keeping at the time.

COAD LIST:
I thought you all might use this info.
Good Luck, Dennis Coad
[Abridged]
Dear All:
Some volunteers from the society of the Daughters of the American Revolution
( DAR) have established a wonderful new program for users of Rootsweb. These
volunteers will do lookups in their database and records if you think one of
your ancestors served in some capacity during the American Revolution. These
volunteers have more databases that are available to them than the ones
commonly used by the search engines.
The process is fairly simple : Go to the DAR message board: There are two
ways to do that: www.rootsweb.com
message boards
topics
organizations and societies
DAR
Or if you want the easy way :-)
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.organizations.dar
Address your message as follows:
subject : DAR Lookup > surname> location > dates
In the body of the message put the information regarding the person,
Be sure to fill out the surnames box at the bottom since the new search
engine will be keying on that item.
Leave the email response box checked and you will be notified when the DAR
volunteers respond . Give them a week or so to get to your request.
Best Regards
John A Hansen
DAR board admin.
