I'm not totally sure of this but my first oldest Clyde in the States was a DAVID (1781-1847) who is buried in a marked grave at Old Town Cemetery in Newburgh, NY. He apparently came over in around 1830 from the Ulster/Protestant quarter of Ireland in about 1830. His daughter Susan married Archibald WISEMAN in 1838 in Newburgh and they became a pair of grandparents to my maternal grandmother. Archie died in 1853, and Susan remarried in 1860 to a man named McCORD. The last I know of the married McCords is that they were censused as living with one of her Wiseman children, David, in Newburgh in 1880. I have been trying for years, without success, to find out when Susan died, and where she is buried. But I keep plugging away...............after all, she is blood kin....

My g-g-g-grandfather was Robert A. Clyde from Scotland. He was married to Mary (probably Chichester). They had 2 children, Isaac and William. Robert was a ropemaker, then twine merchant and the family lived in New Jersey. If any of this information sounds familiar to you, I would love to hear from you!

I think that John Clyde (who was married to Euphemia Patterson) was my great-grandfather's (Robert Clyde) brother. I have no proof of this, just a feeling. Also, Robert's father was named John, and Scots usually named their first son after the father. I know from one of Euphemia's great grand-daughters, that she and John were born in Scotland. I have quite a bit on their daughter, Barbara Monroe's family, if you are interested. I'd love to know how you became interested in John and Euphemia, and how we might be related. Cathy Meyers
