To Elaine from Vancouver WA -
Thanks. I would venture that this John Clyde or Klyde, by his age, MIGHT have been a nephew of my Susan Clyde Wiseman McCord. Like his parents, Susan was from overseas
I misspoke about from where in my earlier message...the 1880 Census says that her origin was Ireland, not Scotland, and I will wager that she was from the North/Ulster.
Thanks for forwarding this. I had not realized before that ANY Clydes were still living in Newburgh as late as 1920.
Bob from Beaufort SC
PS - In Vancouver, WA, does the name Komanecky ring a bell for you?

Message Board Post:
A young father named DAVID Clyde, his wife and two children have been documented as having eaten tainted meat at their home in South Street in Newburgh NY on July 4, 1865.A story on this happening was printed in the Saugerties NY "TELEGRAPH" newspaper within a few days.
My ancestors include SUSAN Clyde, born in Scotland, who married (1) Archibald Wiseman (also my ancestor) on 12/25/1838 at the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Newburgh, and (2) James McCord, at the same church in 1860. Susan and McCord were still living in 1880, according to the US Census, in the household of her son, David Wiseman, in Newburgh. I have been searching unsuccessfully for years to find when and where she died, and confirmation that her father was the same DAVID Clyde (1781-1847) who is buried in Old Town Cemetery in Newburgh.
The David who ate the tainted meat may have been a nephew
of Susan's, and a grandson of the one at Old Town Cemetery.
