Thanks for your post, Sue. I know (primarily from census records) of the following children of Phillip and Hannah Snyder:
Ursula (married Alonzo Tucker)
Menzo
Matilda
Phillip
Hellen
Clarissa (married Cortland Smith...my gggrandparents)
I got Hannah's maiden name from the book to which I referred in previous post. The author of this book is Mary Smith Moulton, daughter of Cortland and Clarissa Smith, who knew Hannah. In addition, my grandmother Leah Smith was raised by Ursula and Alonzo Tucker's son Edmond (and his wife Fanny), further cementing the connection.
I have a pdf copy of Mary's book that includes a partial family tree...I'd be glad to share a copy with you, and would be glad to have any information you know about these families.
Jeremy

I am related to Philip and Hannah Snyder of Cherry Valley. Hannah was born in 1790 and died about 1873. They had at least 12 children that I know of. What are the names of the children of your Philip Snyder? I was under the impression that Hannah's maiden name was Mastrep.
Sue

I do not think that I can help you. The Clyde I am looking into was born in
Scotland in around 1820 and moved to the US as a young adult. If you are in
the UK you may have access to more info than I do. I am unaware of any
relatives who were in South Africa. Sorry.

I am new to this list and just thought I would put my lines out for everyone
to see as well as ask for any information on the following man:
John CLYDE was a labourer and married 17 May 1879 at St Augustines Church in
Port Elizabeth to Sarah Jane Sills, born Webster. He died in about 1893 to
1896. He was living in Cooper Street, Port Elizabeth prior to his death.
For the last few entries in the telephone directory of the time, he was
shown to be a Packer.
I do not know whether he was born in Grahamstown or elsewhere in UK.
I have found any entry for a possible younger brother where he was born
James Henry CLYDE in May 1856 and died 31 January 1870 from injuries
sustained from a wagon running over him. He was buried in the St Patricks
Catholic Cemetery in Grahamstown.
If anyone can shed some light on John Clyde I would be most appreciative.
Other lines include: WEBSTER, HAYDEN, HAWTHORN(E), RUSSELL, TURVEY, TAYLOR,
BOWES-TAYLOR, RABE, GUNTHER, LOCK, NEIL, CHATTERSON, REINDERS, RABBETS.
Regards
Jackie
