Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I never pay any attention to the virus things because I never know the people
they are coming from but this time I knew the person and unfortunally she was
as naive about these things as I was (am). I am sorry and people can stop
sending me mail about it and I will never send out another warning.
Have a great day,
Jo Ann
Folks,
A message was sent to our list with the Subject: NASTY VIRUS... PLEASE CHECK!
This is a hoax that tries to persuade you to delete a legitimate Windows
file from your computer. The file that the hoax refers to, Jdbgmgr.exe, is
a Java Debugger Manager. It is a Microsoft file that is installed when you
install Windows.
While the file can be infected with a virus, as can any file, it is not
itself a virus, nor Trojan Horse, nor Worm, or any other type of malicious
code.
NOTE: If you have already deleted the Jdbgmgr.exe file, some web sites and
applications that contain Java code may not function correctly. This is not
a critical system file. The file version may vary with your operating
system and version of Internet Explorer. If you want to restore the file,
please contact Microsoft for instructions.
For more information:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/jdbgmgr.exe.file....
I strongly suggest that each of you purchase an anti-virus package (McAfee,
Symantec, TrendMicro, etc all make fine products) and frequently update the
signature files and scan your drive at least weekly. I also suggest that
before blindly following information from folks in chat, on lists, etc that
you do your home work on the anti-virus vendor's web sites and other web
sites that offer information to consumers regarding hoaxes and viral software.
Sincerely,
Shannon Cyde

Sorry Everyone!
I received an e-mail from my son's school teacher this morning telling me
that she had been sent a virus and it went all through her address book. It
effects your entire mailing list without you even sending it. It is easy to
detect and to delete. Here is what to do:
1. Go to Start, Find or Search option.
2. In the files/folder option, write the name jdbgmgr.exe
3. Be sure you search in your C: drive.
4. Click "Find now"
5. The virus has a little bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT OPEN IT
6. Right click and delete it (it will then go to the Recycle Bin)
7. Go to the Recycle Bin and delete it there as well.
IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS, YOU MUST CONTACT ALL THE PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK
SO THEY CAN ERADICATE IT IN THEIR OWN ADDRESS BOOKS!
Sorry Folks. I guess this is all part of the wonderful world of computers!
