Michele: I have been getting update on the Clutterbuck name for about 6
months now, but with no luck, until your email. My Grandfather was Stanley
( whom you mentioned in your email).. they left England they settled in
Chicago for a while and Stan then married to a Dorothy Simpson and settled
in New York City. They had a child Stanley Foxwell Clutterbuck II born 1933
in Bronx New York. Married Mary Schumacher in 1958 in New York Had 2
children Don Joseph Clutterbuck (1959) and Lori Elizabeth Clutterbuck
Fava (1962). Bert also settled in Chicago with a couple of sisters. I
only new Bert for a few years living in Mt. Dora, Florida. We think he
passed away in late 1980's or early 1990's

I have been researching for a year now but only newly 'online'.
My grandmother was Florence Harriet CLUTTERBUCK b. 21/9/1886
Bedminster/Bristol f. Lewis Henry Clutterbuck (Master Mariner) m. Kate
Stella Foxwell. I believe she was one of 13 children however I know of only
one sibling
'Bert' who immigrated to USA and had no children, I also believe several of
the other siblings also went to USA. My grandmother had two children in
England, Stan and Percy who also carried the Clutterbuck name. It is my
understanding that Stan & Percy remained in England as children and my
grandmother immigrated to NZ
c. 1919 and had two more children to Jose Aguirre. (Percy did immigrate to
NZ at a later date). I would really like to trace Stan's family!
Lewis Henry Clutterbuck was born 23 Oct 1861, Sub Dist. Harefield ,Reg.
Dist. Wheatenhurst f. Peter Clutterbuck occ. Waterman, m. Thirza nee
Daniels. Peter & Thirza married 6th May 1847 Reg Dist Wheatenhurst(nb
Lewis Henry was born 14 yrs later which probably indicates many unknown
siblings) and it shows his father as Charles Clutterbuck - Merchant. This is
where my proven line presently ends, although I have ref. of an IGI Record
of a Charles Clutterbuck Christening 4 Jun 1797 at Wheatenhurst f. Richard
m. Hannah ). I would like to go back further but equally as important to me
I would like to fill in the gaps of the many missing siblings at each
generation.
Any help appreciated.

Hello Valerie;
You may already have a response to your questions by the time you receive
this message, but here goes.
Thrupp is basically almost part of Stroud and within a few miles of Leonard
Stanley, Kings Stanley, and Dursley. Eastington is some 13 to 14 miles (as
the crow flies) to the Northeast.
I would suggest your best option is to explore the Kings Stanley branch
initially. Within the last few days I have been provided with terrific
info by Victor Paul the CLUTTERBUCK
list owner regarding the two separate CLUTTERBUCK lines and the website
where some excellent info resides.
http://web.ukonline.co.uk/flight/families/cluteast.html for the Eastington
branch, and,
http://web.ukonline.co.uk/flight/families/clutks.html for the King
Stanley, etc., branch.
Hope this helps.

I'm in Australia and not very familiar with the geography over there. Is
Eastington anywhere near Thrup????
My earliest known Clutterbuck is a Hannah Clutterbuck born about 1800 in
Thrup from census entries. Originally I thought my Hannah was the one you
showed below born 1800 (daughter of Richard & Ann). However I eventually
found that one died as a baby (as you've shown).
My Hannah Clutterbuck's marriage certificate (1820 Dursley
Gloucestershire...to Isaac Smith) does not show her parents but one witness
is a William Clutterbuck. I do not know if he is her father, brother,
cousin, whatever!! However, I notice one of Richard & Ann's sons is
called William but he was born in 1811 so would have been too young to be
the witness at my Hannah's marriage.
I've actually seen a copy of the Clutterbuck Book and I just cannot sort
out where my Hannah fits in. I feel if I could get back just one more
generation it would be easier to find a link with a particular line.
Has anyone any idea where my Hannah fits in? Or can they narrow it down
to a few possibilities? I've found it too difficult despite a lot of
effort.

Hi Len,
I've been in contact with Victor Paul before and have also seen The
Clutterbuck Book. I notice you're in Australia. One copy is held by the
Adelaide library and I borrowed it through inter-library loan. But I still
couldn't sort out where my Hannah fitted in.
I did receive an email from another man whose ancestor was a William
Clutterbuck born about 5 years before my Hannah and he also married in
Dursley as she did. So that sounds promising as a possible brother of
Hannah's being the witness at her wedding. Just have to prove it somehow!
I really appreciated your assistance and thanks for the geography lesson -
that was truly helpful.
Best wishes,

Hello Victor;
Thank you very much for your response to my previous e-mail and for the
welcome to the list.
Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you, but I have been going
through some of the new data received not only from yourself, but also from
the web pages at www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/8066 (which is now
http://web.ukonline.co.uk/flight/families/cluteast.html).
Your information in particular gave me some good background to the
CLUTTERBUCK name which I was not aware of - thank you!!
All this has allowed me to fill in a number of gaps and dates in my data.
I now have a few of the lines from Thomas CLUTTERBUCK (1645-1719) down
about twelve generations. I would be more than happy to provide this data
to anyone on the list in either GEDCOM or Word Document book form. Bearing
in mind in book form, there are 73 pages of family notes down to the
present day.
In your e-mail you made reference to the Hannah CLUTTERBUCK I am chasing.
Yes, the one you had information on is my Hannah who married William
HOWELL.
Greetings and a happy Easter to all on the list.

Hi Alison;
Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you, but I have been sifting
through some new information I received.
I think I would have to say that if your John CLUTTERBUCK came from
Eastington, we would have to be related.
In my data I have a 'loose' John CLUTTERBUCK. All I know about him is his
ancestry back to the original Thomas CLUTTERBUCK (1645-1719) at Eastington.
This John was a brother to Hannah CLUTTERBUCK (1748-1848) who appears in
my line.
The details of this 'loose' John are that he was baptised at Eastington in
1750. It seemed to be a fairly usual trend for the CLUTTERBUCKs of
Eastington not to baptise their children more or less in the same year -
some even went three or four years. Let's assume this John was born in
1748 or 1749. Then, let's assume for a moment he is the same John at the
top of your tree - that would him about 19 when the first of your John's
children was born. Possible?????
If you would like, I would be only too pleased to send you my data in
either GEDCOM or Word document format.
Kind regards
Len Heyward

Don't know if this will interest anyone on the Devon or Clutterbuck lists
but today in the Sydney Morning Herald was a very lengthy obituary about
the death of a Robert Clutterbuck in Sydney, Australia, naval officer
(1916-2000), mainly a submariner. He'd had an amazing naval career which
had started when he was accepted as a cadet at age 13 at the Royal Naval
College, Dartmouth, Devon. He'd served in Scotland, China and Australia.
He'd won the DSO for service in WWII in the Mediterranean. The article
stated that one great-great grandfather (name not given) had been wounded
by a French bullet during the battle of Waterloo and the bullet and medal
remained a family treasure.
If this is of interest to anyone related to him let me know and I'll type
out the whole obituary.

Hello list;
Having just joined this list, please allow me to introduce myself. I am a
6G-grandson of Hannah CLUTTERBUCK, born 1748, who married William HOWELL in
1768. They were from the Eastington, Gloucestershire area.
Through the kind co-operation and input of a number of people, I have been
able to take the male line back to Thomas CLUTTERBUCK, 1645-1719. However,
for a number of the wives/mothers I have little or no information. The
following is a list of the spouses I am attempting to find more information
about, also marriage dates, etc:
Elizabeth ? married Thomas CLUTTERBUCK 1645-1719
Sarah PUTLEY 1673-1749 married 1701 Nathaniel CLUTTERBUCK 1672-1748
Mary ? married William CLUTTERBUCK 1711-1775
I would be most grateful for any information associated with the above
line, and would also be prepared to provide my CLUTTERBUCK info in either
GEDCOM or Word document form.
Looking forward to hearing from some of my CLUTTERBUCK cousins.
Kind regards

Hello listers
Am researching the POPE family and have found that Maria POPE, widow
married John Clutterbuck, widower and gentleman of Bucketts Hill on 6
May 1844 at Berkeley, GLS. Maria was aged 49 so can't imagine there
would be any children of this marriage. They both had a number of
children between them already.
John's father was Thomas Clutterbuck.
Anyone recognise these people? I'd really like a Monumental Inscription
that tells me when Maria died.
