I thought I'd apply for the birth certificate for a Elizabeth CLUTTERBUCK
registered 2nd Qtr 1839 in Westbury on Severn Gloucester RD. I couldn't
place her in my Clutterbuck family from the parish of that name and was
curious.
The certificate arrived and she is :
Elixabeth, born 27 May 1839 in Minsterworth Gloucestershire.. Father Moses
(labourer), mother Elizabeth formerly Richardson.
The entry is on the IGI now I know who the parents are .....
By coincidence Minsterworth 1841 census is included on a film I have at
the LDS library currently. While it is faint in places , there do not
appear to be any Clutterbucks listed at all.

Hi Vic, thought I'd take up your invitation.
My CLUTTERBUCK line so far goes back to John and Mary CLUTTERBUCK from the
Eastington and Alkerton Parish Register in Glos.
They had 5 children that I know of:
John 1767-8
Richard 1769-1832 (my line)
Sarah bap1770
Edward bap 1774
Peter 1775-9
Richard CLUTTERBUCK married 29 Apr 1792 Ann (Hannah) HOLBROW. Their children
were:
Harriet 1793-1828
Hannah 1795-1828
Charles 1797-1850
Charlotte 1798-
Hannah 1800-1800
Thomas 1801-
Anne 1804-
James 1806-
Matilda 1808-1880 (my line)
William 1811-
Edwin 1812-
Matilda is my mobile ancestor. She has caused considerable confusion by
having five children whilst neglecting to marry. However, she seems not to
have disclosed this omission to her children who named a deceased father on
their marriage certificates. However, his name varied every time and after
following several red herrings we have concluded there never was a Mr
CLUTTERBUCK.
Matilda's children were:
Charles bap 1829, Horsley, Glos
Ellen born c.1833, Cheltenham, Glos; marr. George Stephenson KIRK
James born c. 1837, Bristol
Charles born c. 1841 Bristol; marr. Sarah MERRYWEATHER
Martha born c. 1847 Hull; marr. Samuel WHEATLEY
Matilda did not register her children's births (1837 on).
She and her children settled in Newark, Notts in time for the 1851 census.
She died there in 1880. Her son Charles and wife Sarah CLUTTERBUCK had
eleven children, one of whom became mayor of Newark, another was my g
grandfather.
I have not so far been able to find Matilda on the 1841 census, or any
batism record of her children except the first Charles. I do not know why
she moved from Gloucestershire to Hull and then to Newark. It is a very long
way to go for a single parent with young children. She may have been living
with a man who was no longer with her by the time of the 1851 census.
I would be interested in any links to other CLUTTERBUCK researchers, and in
any sightings of Matilda and family before 1851.
