Further to my previous "roll call". Does anyone have any burial or death
records of Sarah Clutterbuck (possibly maiden name Dowman), wife of John,
or any records at all that lists ALL her children???? born in the late
1790s/early 1800s around the Stroud area - apart from The Book of
Clutterbuck!
I'm all fired up now & want to solve this puzzle. Also does anyone have
any record of ANY Sarah (with any maiden name) who married a John
Clutterbuck OR any records at all of a child (of any name whatsoever) who
had parents with those names (with proof, via a certificate or something)?
Many thanks for any assistance.
Valerie Wotton
My ancestor was Hannah Clutterbuck (who married Isaac Smith at Dursley in
1821), daughter of a John Clutterbuck & Sarah (maiden name not confirmed).
There was a John Clutterbuck & wife Sarah Dowman around at the right time
in Stroud (Old Meeting House) who had four recorded children in "The Book
of Clutterbuck" but separately there is a John Clutterbuck & Sarah (maiden
name not confirmed) who had another tribe, all in the same area.
Personally I suspect that they are all children of the same couple but am
having difficulty proving it. Certificates available from that era didn't
list mothers names on christening records so who is to say whether or not
there was one or two couples with the names John Clutterbuck & a wife Sarah
!!!!!
I would appreciate hearing from anyone else who descends from John
Clutterbuck & the Sarah with the maiden name not confirmed!!!!

Hello all,
I have been very fortunate to trace my Clutterbuck connections to Thomas of
Leonard Stanley whose Will was dated 6th November 1551. Thomas' wife was
Agnes and I have her surname as STANLEY, daughter of Leonard (yes! - Leonard
Stanley of Leonard Stanley). I've committed the cardinal sin of not
recording where I got this information but believe it is in Burke's Landed
Gentry. If it is included in "the book" would someone let me know.
If anyone else in the group descends from this family I would love to
hear from them.
Regards to everyone.
Robin.
There are two Sarah CLUTTERBUCKs in the Eastington records of early 18th
century. One, d. of Nathaniel, b. 1713, and one d. of John, b. 1705.
Our Samuel Ball (of Leonard Stanley) m. in 1731 one of the above. Since we
believe he was born in 1711, it may be the former. May not.
Any help would be appreciated. Sincerely, Janice
Sue, I have gone through the Eastington, Gloucestershire records, and as I
remember it, the old spelling (1500;s-1600's was Clutterbook and
something more like Clotherbook, and then became Clutterbuck before 1700's
sometime. Janice
Hello all,
Following Victors prompt herewith my Clutterbuck connections. I am very
fortunate in being able to trace a direct line back to one Thomas CLOTTERBOOKE
d. 1572. (my 11th. Great Gandfather). All those in between us are recorded in
"The Family of Clutterbuck" within the branch " Clutterbuck, of Bucketts Hill,
in the Parish of Berkeley, Co. Gloucester.", mostly in great detail. My
Grandmother , Helen, was the final holder of the name in my direct line.
I would really love to know if there are any other Clutterbucketts ( as my
daughter calls them ) amongst you.
Meanwhile, my previous offer to do any look ups in the above book is always
open, please feel free to get in touch.
Kind Regards to all
Dave , < oatlands(a)clara.net >
I am not sure if there is a connection between the CLUTTERBUCKs and the
name I am researching which is BURROUGHS. I do know that Judith CLUTTERBUCK
married John BURROUGHS on 20 November, 1753. I believe that one of their
sons is the father of Thomas BURROUGHS who started and created my surname.
My surname is BURROUGHSFORD. Around 1802, Thomas BURROUGHS , who lived with
but was not married to, Susannah FORD had their first son and they named
him Thomas BURROUGHS FORD. I believe John BURROUGHS is the father of this
Thomas BURROUGHS. I was wondering if anyone has anything on this Judith
CLUTTERBUCK that may help me to trace it to Thomas BURROUGHS.
I don't know where in England my CLUTTERBUCKS came from! I've done a lot
of research and haven't found a thing....
This is all I've got.

We have some new blood on the CLUTTERBUCK list - our numbers are now
up to the grand total of 24! A selective group .....
Things have been quiet for a while, with the new people joining us it
makes sense for all of us to to post our CLUTTERBUCK details (maybe
again). I'll kick off.
My CLUTTERBUCK ancestry is from James CLUTTERBUCK, blacksmith. He
migrated from his birthplace of Westbury-on-Severn, Gloucestershire,
England to Christchurch, New Zealand in 1878 as a single 22 year old.
James father was William CLUTTERBUCK, also a blacksmith born
Westbury-on-Severn, Gloucestershire, England but circa 1820. William
married Caroline BALDWIN.
William's father was another William CLUTTERBUCK, also a blacksmith.
This William was in Westbury-on-Severn parish by 1814 (specifically at
the hamlet of Northwood Green) . There the trail grows faint. He said
he was from nearby Ashleworth or Hasfield in various census returns. A
possible candidate there would mean he had Stephen CLUTTERBUCK as a
father.
The family seems to disappear from the Westbury area about 1910. A
recent find was a Country Womens Institute history with the quote
"There were forges in Northwood Green. One at Forge Cottage, now
occupied by Mrs. C. Wilkes, was run by a man named Clutterbuck, who
was well known as a particularly fine craftsman...".
Looking to hear from the rest of the list ..........

again in various sources?
I will post details of my C/B's when I have sorted out my computer, as
at the moment they are on my old machine which crashed at the weekend.
Will be in touch
