I would like to thank all of the wonderful people who sent such warm and
caring condolence notes. I was over whelmed by the thoughtfulness
everyone has shown me during this most difficult time.
My Father and I were separated by 500 miles but talked several times a
week for an hour or more. He was so excited about every little detail I
discovered concerning our family history. Every conversation started with
"What did you find today?!". We had planned a trip this spring to
Kansas and Missouri. He was really excited about discovering and
meeting our new found relatives.
I will miss my Father's phone calls, our visits, and his wonderful
ability to listen and make me feel all things are possible.
I am at peace with his passing as I know that he is in a wonderful place.
Just a few weeks before he passed away he had discovered his
grand-daughter was carrying his first great-grandchild. He sent her an
email on the computer down at the coffee shop he went to every evening.
I would like to share that with you.

Dear Shawna and Tommy,
Congratulations on the new addition to the family!
May is a perfect time. May is the month of rebirth - new leaves on the
trees, flowers blooming, spring rains. The most beautiful time of the
year. What a blessing!
Love,
G.P.
Future G.G.P.

Again, thank you all for caring.

Hi Everyone
I have set up a family tree for both the above branches of the CLUTTERBUCK family on my
web page at
http://www/geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/8066
My connection to those branches are revealed there. Any comments, additions or
modifications would be most welcome - much of my information is from a book privately
printed in 1924 entitled "An Account of the Principal Branches of the Family of
Clutterbuck from the Sixteenth Century to the Present Time"
Also on the page are some brief notes on Kings Stanley.
Hope it is of use to someone
Regards
Stuart

Ah ha! The famous Clutterbucks and Trotmans! In the serendipitous
way
of this list, you never know what's going to turn up. I've been doing
some research on the Berkeley area related to my family, the Archards
or
Orchards, and have come across these names frequently. The
information
below was gleaned from my notes. Check the sources for complete
records. .
Clutterbucks of various spellings are recorded in the Berkeley to
Wotton
area as far back as I've researched - about 1200. The Trotmans were a
prosperous family in the same area. There are several listing for
both
in Men at Arms for Glos. of 1608, especially in Hampton Meise.
Bigland's indexes show many monuments for both families in Berkeley,
Eastington, and Dursley. For Berkeley there are stones for
Clutterbuckes of Hinton from 1674-1733. Names include James, William,
Thomas, Edith, Esther, Fortune, and John. I haven't copied them all,
but do have a note from the same source, p.159 about "Hinton, Halmore,
and Breadstone, in which various eftates are poffeffed by the Families
of ...Clutterbuck..." and others. Yes, it is written this way. My
spell checker is going to blow up.
Many Trotmans listed for North Nibley and Wotton Under Edge.
Slimbridge records, 1679: Timothy and Elizabeth Trottman, witnesses.
Tymothy Orchard, Slimbridge, yeoman, married Grace Trotman in 1674.
Edward Trotman, Slymbridge, broadweaver, married Edith Taylor in 1637.
Edward Trotman, will proved 1664, Slimbridge
Men at Arms 1608 Richard Trotman -Slimbridge
John Trotman, gent, and Edward Trotman of the court, as well as
others
- Cam
Records held at the GRO:
10566 "Copy letter of attorney appointing William Clutterbook of
Simbridge to doe and make sute and service in the name of Robert Hill,
archdeacon of Gloucester, in the hundred court of Berkely for the
manor
of Gossington, 1 Aug. 1605"
10571 Names and holdings of tenants of Sir Richard Rivers in Hurst and
Slimbridge. The particulars follow a letter from Richard Trotman to
John Smyth of Nibley, 25 Sept. 1604.
10508 Agreement between Edward Trotman of Micheldean and John Smyth of
Nibley for the lease of land called Reilds otherwise Rylds, in
Slimbridge, 14 April 1613.
10502 Letter from Edward Trotman to John Smyth, of Nibley, concerning
a
right of way through lands at Slimbridge, 18 April 1628.
I've found much useful material in the records of the Bristol and
Gloucestershire Archaelogical Society. These might be of interest to
other researchers, so I include them.
Marriage Allegations 1637-1680 v.2
Marriage Allegations 1681-1700 v.9
Calendar of Wills 1660-1800 v.34 and
Men and Arms for Gloucestershire in 1608 compiled by John Smith
Bigland's Indexes
Gloucestershire Wills 1541-1650 British Record Library v.12
Bristol Wills pre 1800 BRL v. 17
Also of interest and a great read is the rather large Extracts of
Smyth's Lives of the Berkeleys. He includes lineages of many of the
families in this area.
Sorry this is so long. I'd be glad to send details on sources to
anyone
who's interested.

My father passed away last evening.

13 November 1997
Mr. Walter S. Miller, Jr., aged 69, a long time resident of Palm Desert
passed away unexpectedly Wednesday evening, at home. He had a long
history of heart problems and hadn't been feeling well the last several
months. He was the son of Walter S. Miller Sr. and Ethel Mae Smith
Miller, both deceased.
Walt, as known to his numerous friends, was born and raised in Oxnard,
Ventura County, California where growing up was a great adventure for
him. As a young teenager he loved taking the bus to Los Angeles to see
the burlesque shows or to Santa Barbara for a day at the beach. Later he
raced jalopies' and served in the Coast Guard and was stationed on Sai
Pan. He had dreams of going back there for a vacation someday. He loved
telling his children and grandchildren about his life and many
adventures. He spent every evening having coffee with his friends at
Coffee to A T where he enjoyed debating life and sharing experiences.
Mr. Miller is retired from Cal Lutheran College in Thousand Oaks where he
was the Facilities Manager for many years.
He is survived by his daughter, Diane Goldhammer of Sacramento, CA; son,
Scott Miller of Squaw Valley, CA.; one granddaughter, Shawna Butler of
Chatteris, England; two grandsons, Jason Miller of Palm Desert and Scott
Goldhammer of San Francisco; two sisters, Louise Brown of Morrow Bay, CA
and Lucille Vanderwood of Bellevue, WA and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by a daughter, Melody Chappel in 1982 and a
sister, Lois Goldman this year. He was to become a great-grandfather next
May which delighted him.
Mr. Miller will be profoundly missed by his family and friends.
Services to be arranged at Chapel of the Palms, Coachella.
