Some information on Lydia Clutter and Joseph Clutter. My information on Joseph Clutter is that he married Elizabeth Fox in Greenbrier County December 14, 1841. To this marriage were born two daughters Margaret J. and Lydia. Elizabeth must have died as she does not show up again.
Lydia married John Lewis in Greenbrier County in 1879. Margaret married O. H. Mc Morrow January 1869. The mother Elizabeth Fox Clutter must have died early as she does not show in later census. Mr. Joseph Clutter and the two girls are in the 1860 census with the Joseph Beard family. In 1870 Margaret Clutter and husband O. H. McMorrow and their daughter Mattie are living with Joseph Clutter in Union Township.
My records show that O. H. McMorrow died on August 14, 1874 in Pocahontas County.
Now I see that our information does not match here I suspect that the Lydia that you speak of may have been a daughter of Stuart Clutter or of Stephen Clutter. Let’s share information and uncover this mystery. You can e-mail me directly at gailhyer(a)yahoo.com

For what it's worth, my reading of the Academy Twp 1860 census is Joseph, age 40, born VA, Margaret, age 18, born VA and Lydia J., age 15, born VA, as a household, so I assume Joseph is father of these two young girls. I do NOT have Joseph in 1850 yet, but assume he is related to Stephen, Issac and Timothy of Greenbrier and Pocahontas Cos.
This Joseph appears to have married a widow(?) Margaret B. MCMORROW, born abt 1844 by 1880 (Pocahontas Co.). He appears to be living with the MCMURROW family in 1870. In 1900 he was enumerated with William Pearl MCMORROW in Braxton Co.
Please let me know if you get these people sirted out.

Lydia Clutter was my paternal gr-grandmother. I show her married to Samuel James in Pocahontas Co, VA in 1865. They moved to Braxton Co., WV and had two children Samuel Price & Mattie Eula.
I have not been able to find Parents for Lydia. She is listed on the 1860 Census in Pocahontas Co, Academy PO.
There is also listed a Joseph Clutter (I think the age is 40) and Mary Clutter, age 18. I think the name of the household they are in is Bender~~writing on census is very hard to read.
Would greatly appreciate any help in matching Lydia with her parents.

Gail,
I suppose you already know that they were in the Pocahontas Co WV censuses. In 1870, for example, I see Isaac N. age 51, Frances age 52, William M age 18, Joseph F age 16, Newton S age 14 and Colbert E age10. The 1850-1880 census entries trace some of the family history.
Don't know about William, but I see Joseph and Rachel and 2 sons in the 1880 Washington State, Whitcom Co census, with Rachel back in Iowa in the 1900 with son and dau. Newton S. and family is in the 1880 and 1900 Pocahontas Co censuses. Colbert E is in the 1900 census of Indiana, Pulaski County with Laura and 4 kids. His son Colbert b 1892 and son Willis b 1895 are in the Social Security death index.
Hope this helps.
