My great-great aunt was Rhoda Dean Clutter, married to Josephus Clutter. While I don't have much information on Josephus, I believe my father has done some research on him and his family. I could put you in touch with him, if you'd like.
P.S. I believe the name you mentioned, Horace Asa, is a family name....Rhoda's brother was named Horace, and she had a nephew named Asa (my great-grandfather).

I am descended from their daughter, Jane Alice "Ally" who married Wayne Smith. Jane and Wayne Smith had a daughter, Laura, who married Forrest Emmer Williams (my grandfather). Please let me know if you are related. I have struggled with Abraham for years. Thanks.

There seems to be growing confusion over the two Samuel CLUTTERs who were early settlers in Ohio. I am hoping that we can clear this up before it gets worse by people copying over erroneous information.
One Samuel CLUTTER (my 4-greats) was born 13 Apr 1764, and was left a full orphan according to the family tradition. He was the son of William and Mary (NIBLACK) CLUTTER, it goes on to say. In 1796 he married Rachel DENMAN, the ceremony performed by Isaac Price, J.P., in Morris County NJ. They migrated to Washington Co PA, then to Knox Co OH in about 1816. They died there (he on 5 Dec 1852) and are buried in the Owl Creek Cemetery in Morgan Township. I attended Sunday School at that Church as a boy and have seen their graves on many occasions. I have also seen Samuel's estate records at the Mt Vernon Court House, where one can also see the will of his father-in-law William DENMAN.
I even have a brick from the old house these CLUTTERs built in 1818 in Morgan Township, very near the farm on which I was raised. That house was burned down about 20 years ago, but my aunt salvaged a few bricks for the family. A valuable listing of the descendants is a collection of about 200 family group sheets on file at the Licking County Genealogical Society Library in Newark OH. I had the joyful task of proof-reading and updating these several years ago when Polly BARCUS and Roger BAIR did them from the notes of William MILLER. MILLER had written to all branches of the family in the 1920's and many copies of his letters have circulated in the past.
Now, the other Samuel CLUTTER was born in about 1772, also in NJ, it appears. He is the one who married Hester WORKMAN in about 1793, and he appears to be in the 1810 Census of Monogalia Co VA. In about 1818-1820 they migrated to Hocking Co OH, where he made his will in 1851. He became the ancestor of Mrs. S. Paul ESSEX of IN, Janet FRENCH of Toledo OH, and Miss Gladys INGRAM of Stillwater OK, three ladies I became aquainted with in the 1970's. Gladys and I concentrated on the early CLUTTERs and, among other things, we were the ones who sponsored Hank JONES' work that located Birkenau, Germany, as the ancestral area of the CLUTTERs. A summary of our efforts was published by Gladys in her book _This_Our_Heritage_.
Please, if you have one of these Samuel CLUTTERs in your files, check to be sure that you have not confused the two.
