Derek,
From what I can tell from the census, William's father John was born in Illinois. William's parents were John and Mary (Smith)Clutter. They were married in Shelby Co. IL. July 29, 1877. I got a copy of their marriage licenses but it doesn't give their parents name. John & Mary had a least 3 children, Anna Bell, William Andrew, & John. If I find anything else I will let you know.

I have Diadema Clutter, daughter of Andrew Jackson Clutter and Mary Ann Keigley. She was born 7 April 1853 in Ohio, probably Washington County, and died 30 September 1895 in Lanagan, McDonald, Missouri. She married Joseph William Fay. I don't yet have their date or place of marriage or names of children. Her parents (Andrew and Mary Ann) were married 30 March 1848 in Washington County, Ohio. I found them on the 1850 census (Jolly Township, Washington County) and am in the process of tracking them in 1860 and 1870. I know they were in Athens Township, Gentry County, Missouri in 1870. I have more information on Andrew, i.e. other children. I'm fairly certain that his parents were my John T. and Catharine Clutter. The evidence points to that, although I haven't found the proof yet. If you're interested in more information, let me know.
I'm searching for the parents of John T. Clutter, who was born 29 November
1792 in Pennsylvania. John married Catherine Unknown (born 25 June 1789 in
Delaware) about 1821. They were in Ludlow Township in 1830 and 1850. I
haven't yet found them in 1840. Their children (based on census records)
were: John B. born about 1822, Levicy J. born about 1833, Martin Van Buren
born about 1835 and James Washington born about 1839. John died 28
February 1868 and Catherine died 19 February 1872. They are both buried at
Matamoras Cemetery in Washington County, Ohio.
I have been told by another researcher that John's father was William
Clutter, who was born 28 November 1752 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. This
researcher says that William was a Revolutionary War pensioner and that
John T. Clutter from Ludlow included a statement in his pension file. I
haven't found a record of a William Clutter serving in the Revolutionary
War so I can order that pension file and see for myself if my John T. was
his son, nor have I received a copy from the researcher who promised to
send it when it was "found".
Are there any researchers out there who are researching this Clutter line
who can help me? If someone can just give me enough information that I can
order his pension file from NARA, I would be grateful. At this point, I
don't know what unit he served in or have any idea of the dates.
Thanks!
Cynthia
