Was Mrs. Chess any relation to my grandfather, Charles Clutter or my great grandfather, Samuel Clutter of Greene Co? Samuel was a private during the civil war with "A" Co., 140th Pennysylvania Volunteers under Captain Burns.

Thanks Karen,
I found a Henry Clutter (30 years old) in the 1850 Shelby county Missouri census. I think this is the guy I'm looking for. I'm still not sure he is my great great grandfather but I hope to find out by looking at the 1860 census for this same area, just having a hard time finding this census.

Henry was in the 1810 census for Mason County, Kentucky and again in 1800 for Mason County. In the 1830 and 1840 census he is not there. So he apparently had moved on. That's all I have. My side would be under William J. Clutter born 1778, he had 7 children. One was a Thomas who was a mason in Jessamine Cty, KY. Good luck on finding yours. I will keep an eye open for Henry as I research.

My great grandfather Thomas Marion Clutter is from Shelby County Missouri - born in 1854 and died December 12, 1923 in Racine, Wisconsin. I believe he is a son of Henry Clutter and Nancy Irwin who came to Missouri from Kentucky. Can anyone help me verify this as a fact?

The only record I have of William Clutter is that he is the father of Abraham Clutter. This William's wife was named Sarah Rutan. Also I have record of John C. Clutter (son of John clutter and Ruth Wade) married to Phebe Headley had a daughter named Eunice born in 1804 at MorrisTwp Washington Pennsylvania. They also had a son named Abraham born in 1795.
