Here is a brief listing of info. found in the Will of Jacob J. Clute of Stockton, Chautaugua County NY.
Will written June 2, 1860.
Indicates that Jacob is 28 years old.
Lists parents John C. and Mary Anne Clute.
Includes bequest to brothers Thomas W. George W. and John A. Clute. Also mentions sisters Ann Cropsey(sp) wife of Frank, Sarah Miller wife of Amonzo Miller , Mary H. Clute and Jane A. Clute as well as a brother Joseph B. CLute
The 1850 census of Town of Arkwright, Chautaugua County, NY finds the family of John Clute and Mary A. includes all of them except Joseph who I assume is older and out of the house by this time.
Mentions land in Stockton, parts of lots 32 and 40 conveyed to Joseph and Jacob by their parents.
A bequest to the methodist Episcopal Church of Delanti.
The Will was probated 15 June 1861. Can only assume he may have died in Civil War. Would be interesting to look him up.

Shontz sounds German, not dutch for sure.. But depending on the minister of the church, the misspellings are wild in the old records.

Hello, Yes I do think that this is my John S (Stilwell)Clute. I was focusing my research on Shorts not Shonts.
I just spent some time going through the site you suggested. I think that will be quite helpful. I do appreciate your input.
Regards,
Nancy

Amazing. I think that I will look harder at the Richards or Dirks in that period to see if I can find a candidate with a somewhat earlier birth date, that might fit.. Never can tell. Thanks for the Shonts.. Will add that into the mix.

The record I saw at the Quinte OGS, showed Richard Clute and Catherine SHONTS, not Shorts, as the parents of John Clute's baptism in 1801. (source: OGS Quinte,

I descend from the Peter I in Schenectady. That was his second wife. He had bunches of children from his first wife Catherine Marselis.. Am interested in the other two.. Might help to pin down on children. I rooted out my Canadian file as well and will look at it.
Will also look up each male child from that generation to see what I have.

Rachel has children including Peter and Matilda.
I recently got some Wills from SAMPUBCO for Jacob Clute in Stockon, Chataugua County and Peter I of Schenectady. If interested I can send them to you. It appears that this Jacob quite young and apparently made the will before going off to the Civil war. Peter I. died late 1800's and mentions ;ots of relative. apparently his second wife was Martha and the Will indicates he previously had an agreement with her assume regarding assets for children of his from first marriage. There is another Will of a Jacob in Sherman, Chataugua County. Also have a Will of Lucas Winne, Alida's father.

I agree that Rachel is a definite fit for this family. The Winnes used Rachel a lot. Peter is the other common thread for the people as well. My query about your entry with Matilda from 2005 was that I have a child born and baptised in 1811 already for this family.. I would fit Rachel in probably between Thomas and Abraham.. I wish I were sure about who Peters parents were. For years I though Jacob Clute and Maria Ouderkerk and I know the Ouderkerk family historian felt the same. But I have another person who is sure that Jacob and Marias Peter married Leah Bouse.. But no proof that I can see either way.

Thank Stephani:
At least this helps confirm move to western NY. I am the one with the Matilda connection. It seems that most of them kept bible records but didn't show up in the church records often. The additional names help. The Fonda records show a marriage of J. W. Pellor (sp) and Rachel Clute of the right vintage and as I say they show up in Northeast later and Alida Clute is with their dtr. Matilda. Not unusual for Rachel being sister of Matilda and naming a dtr after her sister who died 1831. Matilda married Daniel Morrell. also online found a Pellor genealogy that mentions Peter and Alida. There is a Peter in 1860 census in northeast with Abraham and Alida neary with Matilda Munger.Rachel a common name in the Winne family being the mother of Alida.
At least this gives me some new leads.

Interesting. I do not have a Rachel in Peter and Alidas children. I find Maria, 1804, Montgomery,Glen, Jacob 1806 Marbletown Reformed, Peter 1811 Schenectady, Thomas Macaulay 1812-13, Abraham 1818, Frederick 1821.. possibly Matilda, 1811 ( from another internet person) and maybe a Christopher 1824 I I think he may be a grandchild.
I have the movements from census, 1810 Montgomery, 1825 Root,1830 Glenville and then 1850 Northeast, with son Abraham.
I know that Peter served in the war of 1812, married Alida Winne 8 March 1804, Montgomery, Fonda. I find ( I hope) another Peter marrying Elida Wood on 1810 in Albany, which confused me for a while, but seems to go nowhere.
There are some descendents I heard from just recently in this area that I would supposed should connect to this Peter, but they only know their parents and grandparents, so that is not helpful.
I seem to remember getting someinformation on a will on Abraham at some point.. Might check the county on that.
just checked Abraham.. He died 13 March 1897 in Waterford, Erie, Pa. was Married to Phileta Harris and had at least two children. Mary and Harvey.

Sara, Glad to put a last name on Richards wife..I have Richard James as the son of John G. Clute and Jane Pomeroy.. I also have one more child than you do.. Perry Henry, born March 1884 and I have him as an adult in South Dakota. I heard from a person named Nora in Alberta, Canada in 2005 about this family. She sent me quite a lot of information from the census and state records on Richard and wife and children.
No idea wwhat the Allen E. Clute and the Chamberlain Register is.. Where did you find it?? Love to see it.

Hi Nancy,
Sorry for the delay in responding.
The Quinte OGS has a research room in the Trenton Public Library, Trenton, Ontario. There they have computers and records open to the public during regular hours.
They have a searchable database on line at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~canqbogs/index.htm.
This is helpful as it allows you to select the records, and print them so you can bring them along to search. This saves alot of time.
They have a preacher's record of a John born to Richard and Catherine(Shonts) in 1801, South Fredricksburg. Is this John Stilwell Clute?
