I am trying to trace Jennie BEVANS, sister of Alice DE BOW nee BEVANS
The 1880 census for Richmond Co NY shows Jennie BEVANS b. abt 1869 in NJ living with her older sister Alice and Alice's husband James DE BOW.
I am assuming that Jennie stayed with her sister since their mother in NJ was unwell. I am also assuming that Jennie married on Staten Island. Under those assumptions, I came up with two Jennies who fit. Jennie CLUTE is one of them.
Does anyone know for certain what Jennie CLUTE's maiden name was?
Douwe
Clute, born 16 April 1815 Montgomery county,NY, son of Douwe Clute and Maria
Schermerhorn
married 1. Sarah Sayles, died 18 Sept 1854 and 2. Mary Eveland.
Children:Henry D. 1850,May 1860 ( Mary), Sarah, died at 2 weeks in 1851 and
Edward 1863. In 1880 was in Wyoming, NY> Castile.. Used Douwe I. at t his
point.
There is another Douwe born 1825 in Wisconsin in this period.
Good morning,
Thank you to every one who responded. It is amazing to me how many Clutes
there were with the same names in the same generations.
A couple of years ago I figured out that there were 2 Jellis Clutes who were
about the same age. One was the Jellis Clute, b 1822 in Livingston Co, NY.
The other is my Jellis Clute, b 1825, married Elmira or Almira Chapman and
lived in Wyoming Co, NY. It is, I believe, the county to west of Livingston
County.
Jellis Clute of Wyoming Co was the father of Arthur Eugene Clute, b about
1868. I have found him in censuses as Eugene. Eugene was the ne'er do well
father of my husband's grandmother.
I am wondering the relationship between Jellis Clute of Wyoming and the Dowe
Clutes that he lived with and next door to. Is the elder Dowe his father or
grandfather? Is Jellis Clute's father Thomas Bancker Clute or is that
confused with the other Jellis Clute of Livingston County?
Thanks again!
Dana Christian
